Welcome to the official MySpace home of The Hawk In October. Please visit regularly for updates, new music, show schedules and more!

PLEASE NOTE: The first four songs in the music player above are from a live recording made for a podcast to be available this Spring (2008) from Chicago Acoustic Underground. The recording session/interview took place on the evening of March 5, 2008. THIO is grateful to Michael Teach and Michael Narvaez of CAU for making these recordings available to us prior to the release of the actual podcast. The last two songs are from Jeff Churchwell's debut CD, "Clandestiny," and are part of The Hawk In October's live set.

The Hawk In October is made up of incredibly talented musicians.

Jeff Churchwell: 6 and 12-string guitars, banjo, lead and backing vocals. Jeff has played solo, in an early duo called "Westerly," and in a 4-piece folk/rock band called "Melanie's Waiting," all in Chicago. Jeff is the songwriter and lead singer for "The Hawk...", and counts himself lucky to be playing with such talented musicians. Jeff is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he played no music at all for eighteen years. Coming to Chicago at the turn of the Millennium got him jump-started in a big way.

Chris Hopper: Bass and Guitar, backing vocals. Chris is a truly gifted musician, equally at home on a variety of guitars and basses. Chris will be focusing primarily on bass for The Hawk In October, although it's to be hoped he can be persuaded to strut his stuff on guitar from time to time. You can get a feel for what Chris is capable of by visiting his MySpace page. Welcome, Chris!

Emily Ivari: Lead and Backing Vocals. Emily is so good at what she does that we are going to have to share her with several other acts, she's that in-demand. It'll be worth it, though. In addition to working on her own material as a solo artist, she has just recently joined forces with two other great Chicago-area singer/songwriters, Jeff Brown and David Kav, and has enthusiastically consented to let us borrow her for The Hawk as well. It's all good, but she's going to be very busy. Emily is on MySpace as well, please check out her solo work. Welcome aboard, Emily!

Kat Fitzgerald: Drums and percussion. Kat is a jazz drummer and percussionist who will be bringing a new and different sensibility to some of The Hawk's current repertoire, and who is certain to be a major influence on new compositions as well. But in addition to her playing, she is also host of not one, but TWO important live music series in Chicago: the Uncommon Ground Open Mic nights, and the "4 Women Only" female singer/songwriter series, also at Uncommon Ground in Chicago and The Velvet Rope in Oak Park. Finally, Kat is a professional photographer, and owner of Mystic Images Photography in Chicago. Welcome, Kat!

Jeff - what a great set at Uncommon Ground last night. Nice to hear more than just the one or two songs we throw back and forth at the open mics. Especially enjoyed hearing the two waltzes and the tip 'o the hat to Lyle L. I'm awed by your skills, sir.
