You would never guess this by looking at her pictures but when you see her in person, whether it be in concert or just out and about, you feel the presence of a true hip hop icon. To some it would seem as if it had all just happened over-night, but this part of hip-hop history has been in the making for quite some time. She began writing her own rap lyrics at the age of ten, shy to the world but brewing a talent within that would one day inspire a new generation of artists and mother the styles of many yet to come.
Lega-C quickly overcame her stage fright by doing live performances 2-3 nights a week. After completing a course in Pro-Tools at TCC she began recording and editing her own music. In a matter of months she became Oklahoma's biggest female rapper of all time, and one of the most well-known artists in her region. She released her debut album, "Underestimated," in 2006. That's when she really got into grind-mode doing magazine interviews as well as special guest appearances on televison and radio shows all though-out the country. That year she was also nominated for Tulsa's Spotnik Hip Hop Artist of The Year Award.
Lega-C co-owns and operates Cheerz 2 U Entertainment, a recording studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she has produced several prominent artists. Understanding the importance of public exposure, she cofounded and sponsors "Local Spit," a weekly hip-hop showcase that promotes Oklahoma music and supports local talent. She also founded "Middle of the Map Movement," a tour that showcases local talent in Midwestern states, giving small-town artists the opportunity to show their talent, gain national media exposure, and network with industry insiders. Lega-C doesn't just share the stage with up-coming artists, she has also shared the stage with platinum artists such as Akon, Paul Wall, Too-Short, Rich Boy, Devin The Dude, Yung Joc, Ciara, Afro-Man, Trae The Truth, Z-Ro, Nappy Roots, Celly Cel, Nitro, E-Class, KB Da Kidnappa, and many more.
In 2007 Lega-C left Oklahoma in order to broaden her horizon in a bigger city with more of an illustrious rap scene. And after spending a year in Houston, TX. she returned to Oklahoma with a whole new mind frame. While staying true to the music that made her who she is today, she has also developed a brand new style of hip hop and has begun to cross genres. Lega-C's love for different types of music inspired her to incorporate live instruments into her performances. She enjoys performing high energy songs such as "Raise The Bar" and "Hate Fan" with funky guitars, bass that makes you groove, and live drums that cause involuntary head nodding.
With a mind to grind and creativity that knows no bounds, Lega-C is busy putting the finishing touches on her latest masterpiece. From conventional hip hop, to the heart-pounding rythms of techno, from southern funk to west coast rap, from alternative rock to neo soul, this project has it all. It is a progressive album filled with versatile styles, melodic harmonies, and a side of Lega-C that few have ever seen. Stay tuned!
