Nigel W. Anderson, also known as Gospel rap artist Legin, sees his artistry as ministry. Born May 3, 1984, in Kansas City, Mo., he grew up in Virginia Beach since the age of five. Legin was raised in a loving family by his single mother and grandparents, where he learned about life, values and integrity. He discovered a passion for music at a young age and began producing around 15 years-old.
“Legin” is Nigel spelled backwards, symbolizing how God reversed his life through the Gospel. Although raised in church, Nigel originally turned away from his Christian upbringing and was negatively influenced by his peers and culture. Over the years, Nigel experienced several life changing situations, the most influential of which occurred at the age of 20--the death of his father, whom he had not seen since he was five. At the age of 21, Nigel gave his entire life over to Jesus Christ and has never looked back.
Legin uses his musical gifts to encourage listeners to have a deep relationship with Jesus Christ. He has opened for national and international artists such as Canton Jones, Luther Barnes, Karima Kibble of Virtue and 21:03; and his music has been featured on radio stations such as the award-winning Star 94.1 FM and Rejoice 100.9 FM. On September 26, Legin was honored to win Best Male Rap Artist of the Year for the 2009 Youth Gospel Entertainment Awards in Atlanta, GA.
Legin and his wife, Tia, founded the music label Renaissance Movement Music as a means to promote Christian rap artists. Through Renaissance Movement, Legin has independently produced and released two albums—Lifelines and The Catalyst. Renaissance Movement is home to extraordinary artists John Doe and Christian. Its reputation characterizes a ministry that reaches listeners for Christ, while setting a standard for truth and integrity in Gospel music.
The goal for Legin remains consistent—to give Jesus Christ all glory and honor through life and his music, and to encourage listeners into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
