I've always been a fool for acoustic guitars, or in general acoustic string instruments. Started out when I was fourteen with my fascination for Incredible String Band and Bob Dylans incredible string playing on As Good As I've Been To You. Since then I haven't laid down my guitar, only when I find another instrument to fool around with.
I've sought and found inspiration in others up thru my years, and started messing about with words and melodies of my own when I couldn't find other songs to play.
Recording on cassettes, minidiscs, and after a while on computers, opened up a world to me. Making songs is a great feeling of freedom, at times overwhelming, other times just the freedom needed to feel at home in this world.
Some people, espescially norwegians ('cause norwgians may be generalised to some extent), think my name is only a gimmick. Well, I should be the first to tell you that it ain't. My full name is Leiv-Arvid Reed Lunga, and just to make is easier for y'all I shortened it down to Leiv Reed. Simple and easy. Does it sound good? I don't know. But I'm not about trying to be cool, I'd rather be a fool.
I remember sleeping in my mother's boathouse when I was in my teens. Thru the spring, the summer and till early autumn. Dreaming of melodies on the mandolin. Waking up, playing it. Falling asleep, unable to remember it.
Making a fire in the evening with my friend. Eating canned foods, drinking orange juice. Reading Kerouac, Steinbeck, Jack London, drinking whisky and dreaming of travelling. And that's all gone now.
I've almost forgotten the feeling of running, running as fast as I can. Feet barely touching the ground. Barefooted, bleeding toes; skin peeled off by the red rubber surface. Not caring.
