Lela was born Martha Argelia Alburquerque on 09/23/1980 in Manhattan’s Morningside Heights. Her family is from the Dominican Republic and her parents, Martha Juliana, a teacher’s assistant and Luis Elnesto Alburquerque, a renowned master carpenter, always taught her and her 3 siblings the importance of love, family and generosity.
She grew up watching black & white films and early musicals such as the “Sound of Music” & “My Fair Lady”, sparking her curiosity of fashion, film, fine art and the lives of families in opulent societies. Lela (as her family calls her) is a true entrepreneur, one of the most successful in NYC.
