July 25 at the Velvet Lounge
Chicago pop-rock outfit Bound Stems probably should be headlining the show, and headlining it at a larger venue, but I guess it hasn't caught on yet. The quintet -- featuring Harvey Danger drummer Evan Sult, singer Janie Porsche and former high school basketball teammates Bobby Gallivan (guitar, vocals), Dan Radzicki (bass) and Dan Fleury (guitar) -- makes smart, somewhat quirky, often danceable and infinitely catchy music. Local quartet Len Bias is often sounds similar -- smart, catchy pop rock -- but has a little more edge and darkness and is more experimental. Where Bound Stems leans toward post-punk, Len Bias leans toward math rock and post rock. With Imperial China and Seeing Eyeballs.
