I am a guitarist from south-west London. Have been playing for around 6-7 years. I got into jazz when Sam Eagles invited me into his band a few years ago, then i joined the Jazz Funk Collective which is run by Duncan Eagles - look out for gigs on the JFC page.
I started going to the Ram Jam Club jazz jam session, and then got a few lessons off Dan Redding who got me interested in trying to play over changes.
I joined The Royal Academy of Music junior jazz course which was amazing, and very hard! i highly recommend it. The course culminated in a gig at Ronnie Scotts with John Parricelli - very inspirational!
Since then i have been doing auditions and things and am going to Birmingham Conservatoire in september.
In the meantime, i have been doing the house band in a jam session with Pharoah Russel, Max Luthert and Duncan Eagles which is starting again from June every monday at the Ram Jam Club, Kingston. Please come down!
Places i have played at over the years include: The Ram Jam Club/Grey Horse, The Bleu Note (Dublin), Boom Boom Room (dublin), The Bulls Head, fairfields hall and Ronnie Scotts with Junior jazz course.
I really enjoy jamming, and am always up for playing so send me an email if you fancy it! Cheers
yo mate, i can et you in free but none of the gigs are in london, but if you can get anyhwere then sure! if i had known i was playing opposite them a few weeks ago in london, sorry man, see ya monday!!
Cheers man! I'll keep an eye out for your mate, from the sound of your recordings, he sounds like a great drummer! Very tight recorings btw, good stuff!
I hope the course is good man, I dunno what I'll do if it doesn't work out!
Shit yeah, thats a fair bit of money. It does seem to be pretty endless too, I can never make sense of the forms either! Are you living in halls? I'm from Birmingham originally, where abouts is the campus?
I'm based just outside of Cambridge, although for one reason or another, I spend a lot of my time in town. Where abouts in South London are you? It'd be real good to have a jam! Its just the getting to and fro that would be a problem really.
Hey Leo! I'm good thanks, how about yourself? Thats kind of you to say man, means a lot coming from you too! I need to record more - I didn't spend long on the tracks I have online at the moment, as I get totally carried away and inevitably frustrated if I do! I'll have to have another listen to your tracks when I get home from work, are they new since last time I listened?
The audition was cool thanks, I got in, so I'll be starting in September - can't wait! Its just the cost of it all thats pretty daunting, know what I mean?
Its good to see that you're gigging loads - I'm envious! Everything on track for you starting your course? Finances, accommodation etc? Sorry, I've forgotten, did you say you were going to study at Birmingham?
hey leo, thanks for the comment. i live in leamington which is 20 miles south of birmingham. the other two guys in my hammond trio are studying at the conservatoire, they will be 3rd years when you start.
i would love to hook up and do some playing dude, anytime!
yo, yehh not to bad, exams soon which is long but other than that not 2 bad, playing at ronnies with academy soon so tht b gd!!! So hows stuff with you, you lookin forward to birmingham??
Yeh man should be good, though you should play with us sometime, would be kl. laters on
Hi Leo, thanks for the comment, too kind! I love playing drums! I guess I've been mucking around for quite a few years, but trying to be a bit more serious about it for the last year or so. need to get rid of my brother's old rock kit though and get a jazz kit!
not chris dave.... brian blade. :) and thank you very much :D I don't know whether they would take us but there's a jazz club in Dorking called the watermill: www.watermilljazz.co.uk they sometimes has realy good players but its worth sending a CD.... wouldn't be a regular gig though. unfortunately this town is not interesting enough to have pubs/restaurants that take jazz bands... as you say, no-one likes it :) would love to get playing again though . c u soon.... hopefully :) xx
Yeah all's good so far, had an operation last week to finally fix my nose. Was hoping to make it to your jam at the grey horse but a rehersal at uni ran on a bit longer than I expected and I was shattered. Hope it went well.
I can only watch this clip and not listen because the pc has no sound. I'm sure that's better for my confidence!! I'm not that busy at all at the moment!! Yea, you can have a lesson anytime,,,,, not that you need it!
Thats great man! Cheers for your help, I really appreciate it. A lot of people have said to play something like Autumn Leaves but it'd be good to play something a bit more interesting! I'll let you know how I get on. Congrats again mate! Good on you! Have a great christmas
Ah nice one man! Congratulations! I haven't had my audition yet, waiting to hear from them... You must have been pretty nervous before the audition right? What sort of things did you have to do?
Hey Leo! Things aren't too bad, Its a daunting process and I'm pretty nervous about it! How are you feeling? I really think you'll get in man, you play great. You have the feel of a seasoned pro!
Hey Leo how are you doing how have auditions gone? I got an offer from leeds after the nightmare audition- complete surprise, not accepted by birmingham though.. ah well. Got my London ones coming up in december! You playing anywhere with lizy soon?
