"Delta Revisited"Song Contents:
- 1. Come On In My Kitchen (Robert Johnson) A flashy cover to get things going. Open G tuning. National Delphi guitar.
- 2. Pony Blues (Charlie Patton) This is a cover of Son House's version of a Charlie's tune. Open D tuning. National Polychrome Tricone guitar.
- 3. Cypress Grove (Skip James) One of Skip's most haunting tunes. Open D minor tuning. 1969 Martin D-18 guitar.
- 4. I Be's Troubled (Muddy Waters) One of Muddy's first recorded songs. Open A tuning. National Delphi guitar played lap style.
- 5. Hard Time Killin Floor Blues (Skip James) Another haunting Skip James song with a Devil Got My Women opening. Open D minor tuning. 1969 Martin D-18 guitar.
- 6. Spanish Flang Dang (Elizabeth Cotten) A "Libba" Cotton instrumental. It is not Delta, as this song is a waltz, but nice none the less. Open G tuning. National Delphi guitar.
- 7. Crossroad Blues (Robert Johnson) The first blues songs that I ever heard! Thanks to Cream for their live cover. Open G tuning. National Delphi guitar.
- 8. Feel Like Goin Home/Walkin Blues (Muddy Waters/Robert Johnson) Eric Clapton borrowed Muddy's music for his "Unplugged" version of Walkin' Blues; why not put them together? Open G tuning. National Delphi guitar.
- 9. Little Red Rooster (Wille Dixon) A good example of using the "Muddy Waters Lick" in open G tuning. I threw in a bit from the Rolling Stone's cover in the solo. Open G tuning. National Delphi guitar.
- 10. Illinois Blues (Skip James) Skip's first song. It sounds like a happy tune until you get to the F note on the low E string; "it's all not true baby". Open D minor tuning. 1969 Martin D-18 guitar.
- 11. Stones In My Passway (Robert Johnson) If Robert had more time to record his songs over and over like Son House, Skip James, and others would he have changed his music to match those haunting lyrics? Open G minor tuning. National Delphi guitar.
- 12. Ode To Joy Theme from Beethovens 9th Symphony (Ludwig Van Beethoven) A short instrumental to close the recording. Beethoven's 9th is the greatest piece of music ever written and I am glad to include a tribute to it here. Open G tuning. National Delphi guitar.
Reviews:
. . . . . .with a gift for subtle intonations, pacing, and volume dynamics, Leonardo brings to life some of the delta's most haunting music in a compelling unique way.
Garfield Angove - Blues Singer/ Harmonica Player
He is a sensitive performer who is serious about the music and has fun doing it!
R. J. Spangler Spangler Blues Productions
Influenced by the music of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon, Leonardo enjoys creating his own arrangements from the composition of these master blues players, but always tweaking the tune a little bit, making it different for the enjoyment of all. He plays and sings with great heart and soul.
Maggie Ferguson - Host "Old Front Porch" - WXOU 88.3 FM
....Leonardo has created his own arrangements, making the classics his own rather then showing off his guitar skill, coping note-for-note the originals.
From a review in Big City Rhythm and Blues magazine by Roger "The Professor" White - Host "Bluestime" - WHFR 89.3 FM
