With a flair for the dramatic, Toronto's Leonids were born on the exact
same night astronomers were tracking the faint and fast moving Leonid meteor
shower through the night sky.
Star-crossed lovers, dangerous friends, and masters of the middle
eight, Leonids are a well-dressed ruffian and a disheveled debutante.
A swirling mix of the Velvets, Yo La Tengo, Wilco, the Pixies and
Pavement, Leonids are your new favorite band.
That was a great set at Rancho Relaxo. Painting a portrait of
shimmering guitars, yearning vocals and pop hooks, that combines the
gritty-splendor of the 90’s American indie-underground with melody strewn
delights. An adventurous sound that bursts with energy, carving out
songs that you can hum all the way home.
just wanted to let you know about my show tonight at The Local, 396 Roncesvalles - 10 pm, no cover. It's just me & a string section & it's sounding pretty sweet if I do say so myself! This is week 2 of my April residency...next week I'll have a pedal steel player with me. Details are posted at http://hopefulmonstermusic.blogspot.com
That was a great set at Rancho Relaxo. Back in the early 90's, music was blossoming after grunge, with vibrant lo-fi bands like Pavement, Guided By Voices, etc. I hear that same spirit captured by The Leonids. Warm, spaced-out guitars and breezy harmonies that breathe fresh air into a diverse music scene.
Listening to the Leonids is like uncovering a gem. That was a great set at Rancho Relaxo. Sparkling indie-rock that infuses the melodicism of late 60's bands, the sunny charm of the Elephant 6 collective, with hints of neo-psychadelia. Upbeat and raw, a biting lo-fi sound that's catchy, dynamic and adventurous. A bare-bones, knife-edged, pop concoction that just stretches the range of what's good out there.
The Leonids are all about power and pathos, angular guitar delights that merge yearning vocals with shimmering rapid-fire riffs. Unsettling yet infectious, dynamic and engaging. A turbocharged excursion.
You are playing at the 'Wick??? How '90's old school London is that? Wow! It almost makes me want to drive there just so I can hang out on the patio and drink dirtbag cheap beer!
