After nearly five years of performing live for audiences nationwide, Leon & The Peoples record and release their well received album 'The Road Less Traveled'.
Leon & The Peoples took great care in developing their signature reggae-soul sound as well as their live performance skills before deciding to record. It was important that we took the time to nurture our sound and perform live as much as possible before recording our first album, says Leon. The Road Less Traveled is the culmination of years of hard work and harnessing the energy and creative a vision. We put together something very special to share with our audience. We wanted our first record to represent us and our live sound. Most of what you hear on the record is the songs we've been performing live for some time.
The Road Less Traveled was conceived in Jamaica and recorded at Pulse Studios in New York City and parts in Jamaica under the direction of JK along with a talented team including Pismo; multi-faceted, producer and underground hip hop DJ/performer. JK, the executive producer has worked with several great artists including Herbie Handcock, The Temptations, and Soul 2 Soul. JK has also produced Syleena Johnson, who appears on the Leon & The Peoples duet version of Bottles and Canswhich was originally performed by Angie Stone. Several people contributed their time and talent to make this record something special; including the legendary Beres Hammond who produced the track New Day. Tony Rebel, contributed his classic reggae style to the track Working Man and Tanto Metro of the duo known as (Tanto Metro and Devante) offered his DJ style energy to the dancehall remix of the R&B classic (Second) That Emotion.
NEWS & REVIEWS:
CD Rviews:
“Leon & The Peoples have developed a sincerity of delivery that is moving and impacts the listener from start to finish. It's great that so many textures are employed, such diversity of sound and message, there's something for each of our differences and yet it's more about universal similarities….Bet ya can't listen just once! I just leave it on 'repeat'.”

“LEON & THE PEOPLES CD ‘The Road Less Traveled’ gives you a warm vibe from its single “THAT EMOTION”, it’s colorful, thought provoking with great messages.”

“The Road Less Traveled is soon to become one of the busiest thorough fares in reggae music.
With strong songs, great production and wicked guests Tony Rebel and Tanto Metro it soars way above the run off the mill reggae offerings of late. Leon's debut album is as powerful as his acting and a candidate for the Reggae Grammy. One of the best reggae albums of 2006.”

MARCIA GRIFFITHS with BERES HAMMOND and the HARMONY HOUSE SINGERS, LEON & THE PEOPLES, TRESON and BLESSED at the Docks, Toronto, January 19. Tickets: $49.99. Attendance: 2,804. Rating: NNNN
Between the giveaways and antics of hosts, local opener Treson and NYC's Leon & the Peoples mashed it down musically in their own right. A full back-up band assisted Leon’s music and on Peter Tosh's Legalize It, including well-timed pauses for good-humored banter.

The Illinois Entertainer
By Rosalind Cummings-Yeates
Film and TV actor Leon opened the show with his group, The Peoples, and proved that he can sing as well as act. His rich vocals mostly tackled a slew of reggaized classics such as Chicago’s “Does Anybody Know What Time It Is” and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles “I Second That Emotion.” As well as few original tunes from his debut, The Road Less Traveled.

Armory crowd sways to reggae stars... By MICHAEL ECK
Special to the Times Union - ALBANY … The “For the Love of it Tour,” featuring Jamaican stars Beres Hammond and Marcia Griffiths, and New York City’s Leon & The Peoples, held's way until midnight … after starting 90 minutes late.
Leon & The Peoples opened with a long set of pop-inflected reggae that, in addition to nods' to Marley-mate Peter Tosh, included thumping versions of Chicago’s “Does Anybody Really Know's What Time It Is?” and Smokey Robinson’s “I Second That Emotion"..

So last night's show was amazing. They didn't allow cameras in for whatever reason, so I'll try to sum it up and use press photos.
After having the ticket people hold onto my camera and getting in, I got up to the third row on the dance floor to see the opening act, Leon & The Peoples.
At first I thought it was kind of weird to see an upcoming reggae group so well-dressed but that didn't matter after about 2 seconds of listening. The original tunes had a nice message, and the Peter Tosh was well-delivered. The choreographed dancing was...special, haha.
