INDIANBURN Straight out of Jersey and Brooklyn But not Straight out of the typical rock scene. Caution people this is not modern rock or metal this is Indianburn. This band is so original that the genre they are in should be named after them but, they refer to themselves as “LAWNROCK”. The vocals styles of Chris Belding of Indianburn can only be compared to those of Clutch but stopping there would be to cut down an amazing vocal chameleon. The guitar work of Greg Jarrow and Barry Holsten is amazing they complement each other well. Although no band is complete without a rhythm section as good as the combination of Markus Jarrow on drums and Jason Fritz on bass. A rhythm section like this one is hard to find. CD INDIANBURN “FIVE SONG SAMPLER” On “In a Word” Indianburn takes a page out of the clutch song book, but they do not stop there with their hypnotic guitars and driving bass lines. Every song is its one new chapter in the new genre of LAWNROCK. “Crying Shirt” is a mid tempo ballad that shows Chris Belding’s ability to reinvent his vocals with every opportunity he gets. “Crying Shirt” starts up like a ballad but soon becomes an exercise in rock domination. Once again on the up tempo rocker “Smile With My Arm” Indianburn stay true to the Lawnrock genre while displaying that they can still write crafty hook laden songs worthy of radio air time. With the Elvis Costello inspired “Circus” Indianburn show their softer side displaying some of their less apparent influences. Indianburn closes the set with the psychedelic eerie “How Do You Know When You're Gone” which builds with hope and explodes into a mid tempo rock classic. This is a band that lacks definition. To define them or lump them into one genre would be unjust. Just go to their myspace page and look at their influences and you will be left scratching your head. Just as when you listen to their CD Five Song Sampler. It isn’t rock people it’s LAWNROCK. LEO’S HARD ROCK REVIEW Blindswitch SHADOWS ON THE WALL Hailing from Westchester New York. Blindswitch have a fresh take on power pop reminiscent of the Fountains of Wayne, and The Gigolo Aunts. This Album is full of crafty hooks and great song writing. You can hear a wide variety of influences on this album, from Lennonesque Beatles Ballads to Hard Rocking Rolling Stones influences. With a lack of inspiring music from New York these days this band sticks out like a sore thumb. This entire album is an instant classic, it is a true cross over album. Shadows On The Wall kicks off with the hook laden Little Girl which is a pure Power Pop gem with a great upbeat tempo and a sing along chorus. Blindswitch then turns it down a notch with I Know which has a soaring chorus reminiscent of Coldplay. Next, Blindswitch bring the tempo back up with Breakdown which is a pure exercise in Power Pop from the verse to the chorus, this song is pure genius, this would be an instant hit with the masses. Till Tomorrow could have been straight out of the John Lennon catalogue it displays Blindswitchs musical diversity and ability to bring great rock into the future. Crazy Over You comes off like The All-American Rejects with a twist of rock sensibility, this is a real pop tartlet that you can wet your pallet with. Kick Me rocks hard and steady, this song is full of Rolling Stones flavor with a real 70s feel to it, and is so well written it stands up to any modern day rock song. World of Dreams is a slow tempo Beatlesque rocker with crafty song writing, and well placed guitar, it is a perfect marriage of Oasis and the Beatles. Lets Stay Together is a crafty up tempo rocker with a tasty hook, this song sounds like it could have been written by Jet. Blindswitch bring the album to a close with the ballad The Answer which is a beautiful, masterful well crafted ballad with soaring guitars that gives you hope that rock and roll is not dead. We were either conceived by a grunt or a moan. Personally, I was a groan. Which one were you? Let's raise a glass for humanity and the day of your birth. Liberate minds through the power of rock and roll. Stay strong and true.
