It is common for us as humans to remember things the way we want them, rather than the way they are. Especially in the wake of tragic events it is easy to blur the lines of reality to create scenarios, which benefit the personal interests of some, and deny some their deserved respect. In honoring my fallen hero I prefer to remember the events as they happened. Please remember First Officer LeRoy Homer was only 36 when his life was taken. Remember LeRoy Homer as a US Air Force Academy Graduate, a captain in the Air Forces Reserves, US Air Force Pilot, and a Gulf War Vet. Please remember LeRoy Homer as an American, not just a black one. Please afford him all the privileges that come with his accomplishments.
Please remember that there were only 40 crew and passengers aboard, not 44. Remember that while some passengers were making calls and saying their last goodbyes, the war had already begun. Captain Dahl, and First Officer LeRoy Homer had engaged the threat and were defending the lives of all the passengers not just their own. Remember LeRoy Homer did not ask for the accolades he has received, he earned them. Remember his wife of 3 years, remember his child who lost a father and a role model after only 10 months of life. For all who loved LeRoy Homer remember the pain you felt when you learned of the tragedy, and remember the solidarity and love that was felt for your fellow Americans and live your life accordingly. Remember LeRoy Wilton Homer, my hero was born on August 27, 1965, not made on September 11, 2001.

About me: Martin Luther King Jr. said,"the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." It is unmistakable where LeRoy W. Homer Jr. was standing on September 11, 2001.
