lolek	Feb 29 2008 3:32 PM Les Autres was a French band (1991 – 1994), four musicians (two guitars, bass, drums and vocals) under the influences of bands like Slint, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth or The Bood Radleys, but in fact much more closer to contemporary U.S. bands like Superchunk, The Swirlies, Seam, Codeine or to the first Movietone lp and early Hood discography. Some compilations appearances, a 7 inch, a 12 inch and a lp (all three on Cornflakes Zoo) and they were gone definitely, none of the subsequent projects of the members exploring similar or as exciting areas than on this album. If the band has always been under the radar, after all these years, their unique album, “Le retour à la lune” can be seen as a lost classic of these times and they can be considered as one of the very few essential French bands, with Carmine, Acetate Zero, Purr or Playdoh. There are two standout tracks on this album, “Bus stop” and “Chapels Bay”, but besides that there’s no real weak tracks. “Le retour à la lune” is not a masterpiece but still a very good album that perfectly captures a precious sensitivity with subtlety, between tension, melancholy, delicacy and energy.
