Kate Rusby: "I'd never in a million years expect everybody to like my music. But anyone who tells me I need to change direction or whatever can bog off. This is the music I make, and I make it like this because I want to."
I'm an upbeat, happy lil lassy with a passion for music! I cannot live without my lipbalm, my violin and have to have grated cheese on top of everything.. Now that I've graduated from Uni, I'm persuing the dream of being a pro musician.. I have a few projects on the go and am looking for more!
With years of performance and recording studio experience, Lesley-Marie ("Loughborough University's Music Scholar for Most Outstanding Musical Talent") is an asset to anything musical or music-related. Her high-level violin playing as well as her unique and flexible style makes her ideal for employing as a session musician for strings/violin recording. She will also bring along fun, laughter, sweets and goodies, and fresh ideas for the track she is performing on.
She started playing the violin when she was 8 years old, leading the East Riding String Training Orchestra as well as her schools.
She progressed up to the Intermediate Strings, the String Chamber Orchestra, the East Riding String Quartet and finally the East Riding Youth Orchestra (via audition), where her passion for music evolved.
She toured Hungary for 10 days in June 2001 with the ERYO, performing in 4 different venues, including a lake, so is therefore accustomed to long distance travel and late nights with hardworking days.
She left school with 9 GCSE’s, 3 A-Levels, and A/S Level, her Music Theory certificate and Grade 8 Violin.
University began in 2003 at Loughborough University where she discovered a new style of violin playing – fiddling, when forming an Irish folk-quartet “The Grogs”. She continued her classical violin skills as leader of their String Orchestra, being awarded the Jane & Robert Wallace Music Scholarship, teaching part-time to beginners and continued having high quality lessons herself. She also gained stage show skills being in the band for the FAME and Guys and Dolls production.
She achieved a 2:1 in Geography and Sports Science (BSc. (Hons)) and decided to take time out from study and full-time employment to develop herself as a musician.
Will the help of MusoFinder, The Matthew Bennett Band got in touch with her having read her profile, offering her an audition for backing vocalist and fiddle player for their band. With professionalism and a great attitude, they loved her and welcomed her into their world.
August 2006 saw her write strings for Liam Scott-Smith’s 6-track E.P “August Varlet” (a Loughborough/Stoke-on-Trent-based solo artist who discovered Lesley-Marie via Myspace), and is now a competent string arranger. Her performance in the studio as well as in pubs, clubs and bars with The Matthew Bennett Band, The Grogs, Liam Scott-Smith and Duels (www.duelsmusic.com) proves her ability and addictive involvement in all music.
Due to Lesley's wide involvement with bands, her style of playing is very flexible, ranging from folk/jigs/reels and ballads (The Grogs), to more edgy country folk-rock (MBB), classical and grand layered strings (MBB and LSS) and alternative anthemic new-wave pop (Duels).
Her classical training from a young age has given her the technique to be able to fulfill any brief she is given.
Other instruments she brings to the table are Tin Whistle, Mandolin, Keys/Piano, Glockenspiel, Melodica and Vocals.
Lesley-Marie has worked as a self-employed musician for "Music Time", an organisation that teaches the basics of music to pre-school children and their carers, based in East Yorkshire. Here she has performed and taught the kids original songs she has written which introduce and teach pitch, rhythm and tempo, as well as encourage all children to enhance their musical ability and express their individuality and spend quality time with their carers.
She also has worked for Creative Projects Ltd, Hull as Stage Manager at The Grassroots Festival 2007, and has great knowledge of festival organisation due to her work experience at the Leeds Carling Festival 2007.
Currently The Musgraves (formerly The Matthew Bennett Band) are in the studio finishing tracks for a debut album, and drumming up a lot of industry interest as they do it!
She is also pleased to announce that the 2nd album by Yorkshire rockers "Duels" was released on February 14th 2008. See www.thebarbariansmovein.com, which she composed and performed violin on.
Part-time she teaches, manages, performs, does sessions with bands needing a string player, umpires and coaches Netball, and works casually in a Primary School to fund her travels with The Musgraves.

Hiya, bands sound good, quite contrasting. Think you can definitely hear the Ryan Adams influence on Matthew Bennett, it's pretty strong. I like Ryan though so it's all good!
Looks like you're working with a couple of pretty tight and successful bands. Great stuff!
Hi! pleasure to meet you too, i'm fine, How are you? Nice job I like it. The Matthew Bennett Band reminds me a lot to R.E.M. And Duels reminds me to somethings of David Bowie. Cool job, A greeting from Mexico City. Good luck!
