About me:
Leslie W. (Les) Merritt, Jr. currently serves as North Carolina's elected State Auditor. In 2004, he became the first CPA and the first Republican since reconstruction to win this statewide elected office.
Les is a lifelong resident of North Carolina. He was raised on a farm in rural Sampson County between Clinton and Magnolia, where his family raised hogs and cows and grew tobacco, soybeans, corn and other produce crops.
Les is a graduate of North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Prior to being elected State Auditor, he owned and operated a small business for over twenty years. He spent four years as a member of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. Les and his wife, Cheryl, live in the eastern Wake County town of Zebulon.
