REAL LIFE STORY I have felt the energy of rap music for as long as I can remember, but it was in 1993 that it became more than just energy within. The very moment that I first heard “West Coast Rap” was when I became hooked on the vibe. I KNEW that I had this inside of me, but due to my lack of knowledge on the history and origin of such phenomenal music, I didn’t quite understand just how much I had in me. I only knew what I heard on the radio and what I saw on MTV (back when MTV actually played music videos!). I suddenly began to yearn for more. I started to inquire within. Three years later, in 1996, I relocated from sunny Florida to snowy Connecticut, and I took a job at a local music store. My lack of knowledge shined through as my co-workers schooled me on the art of hip hop. After they had their fun, they began to educate me on a different kind of rap. They introduced me to rap music that portrayed meaning; it had a message. It was created with a deeper purpose than to flash fancy cars and big money. The samples were fresh; the drums were mad thick. It was music that you could feel from the soul. The introduction to this kind of music was a life-altering experience for me. All I could think about was music. I was confident that this was the scene in which I belonged, but where? I began DJing; I loved the feeling of blending beats and mixing acapellas with various instrumentals. Suddenly I commenced on the challenge of writing lyrics to create my own songs. This brought a whole new purpose to my life. Finally, in 2000, I was blessed with the opportunity to record my first verse. My gratitude goes to ‘Live Long’ and ‘Dark Face the Villain,” two emcees I worked with at the time. The three of us collaborated as we each brought different talent to the table. This was around the time that I decided to stop DJing and focus solely on my career as an emcee, and thus REAL LIFE was birthed. After enduring many challenges, I decided to move back down to Florida in ’03, and embarked on the beginning of my career as a true emcee. I finally found my purpose in life, and nothing was going to get in my way. It took me five years to complete my two year degree. After that I started working hard and focusing on the vision I created for myself. Every year I have continued to progress, meeting new and interesting people who have helped me take positive steps towards achieving my goals. Seven years later, here I am: happy, healthy, confident and truly blessed. IT’s REAL LIFE, all day, everyday! One love. Much peace. My top 5 most influential albums: 1) Illmatic 2) Me Against the World 3) Phrenology 4) Like Water for Chocolate 5) Enter the 36 Chambers .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
