One Another is a knot of friends that write, perform and produce music together. The three core members of the group imagine a pluralistic sound that isn't a specific genre but is a style which can evoke the familiarity and accessibility that makes a great pop song. One Another intends never to hide from the fact that they make music in the greater tradition of pop and rock n' roll. They intend to honor their ever-widening angle of influences (intentional or not) while striving to polish what they are playing into something that can rip and groove with a crisp, raw edge. They wonder, what it is about certain music that got it dubbed Alternative and dig deep into their understandings of different forms of punk, hardcore and metal to find new ways of playing maximum pop, rock n' soul.
The founders of the band share their roots in insatiable cafeteria discussion over music that excited them, which inevitably led to the high school band Old Fashioned. The three played together with two others in the band (Will Carroll, Gordon Millsaps). Old Fashioned lasted until, naturally, they all parted ways to experience that whole college education thing. Jake and Jason kept it together in long standing NC death/thrash metal act Columns. Chris in speed punk band Minority Party, before chasing down something in Chicago for the last 3 years. The city never quite yielded the musical relationships that Chris cherished in NC so he packed up and headed home. Luckily Jason, Jake and Chris never skipped a beat and founded One Another in summer 2009.
Having been exposed to all forms of radical bands from the most earnest to the totally absurd, One Another understands that no matter what, you'll stand for something. But it isn't about shoving that mindset down the throat of the listener, for each one they are grateful. We encourage the same level of questioning that we practice each day. It's what fuels the energy of our sound. But if there is a realm of virtue that One Another must represent, it is open communication and lucid collaboration. They sustain an ardent positivity but not without clear acknowledgment of the toxic forces at work at this moment in history. Most of all, this band exudes the exceptional power and sheer joy that comes from the shared experience of music and its creation thereof.
