About me: Level 4 is a new magazine that seeks to promote arts and culture in and around Southend-on-Sea as the nexus for the different cultural threads that exist in our town and county. Southend and Essex as a whole have historically suffered from negative connotations in terms of their association with promoting culture, however, recent regeneration activities have led to the development of a fledgling, and rapidly expanding, arts scene. Our intention is to promote this surge of creative activity to the community in a way which is intelligent, thoughtful and encouraging and to overturn the prejudices and stereotypes that Essex has become unfairly coupled with.
Level 4 will be promoting all forms of art and of culture (high, low, pop, pub, sub, gay etc) that exist locally (and nationally) but is distinct from other current publications in terms of depth, tone, diversity and pitch. Level 4, in academic terms, indicates undergraduate engagement and beyond level of interest (contemplation).
Level 4 Distribution:
Level 4 is available free from various cafes, hairdressers, boutiques and bars around the Southend, Westcliff and Leigh areas. It is also available in both Waterstones in Southend, HMV, Zavvi and PMT. If you cannot find one, please ask the staff in these stores as they may just be out of stock, in which case they will contact us and we will make sure we get some more in as soon as we can!
Who I'd like to meet: Musicians, poets, artists, designers, promoters, comedians etc. People who actively promote arts and culture in and around the Southend area.
Many thanks for the add and welcome to my 'Space'. Good job with the magazine, I was the guy chatting with Debbie when she asked who to see to get a slot at Preview (Debbie Does, p44) - that was a busy night!
Anyway, I am on stage this Friday 2 Oct as their guest at the Preview Club (upstairs at The Spread Eagle, see my page for details) playing two sets, if you fancied popping down?
Not sure if you already know but apparently the Golden Lion pub is now having an open mic evening each week? They have a myspace profile on here if you're not already friends with them...
Sorry, know this is rude, we'll stop doing it at the end of June! This coming Sunday three ace female fronted bands at Saks for just £3 plus you get a free bit of vegan cake!
Sorry for the spam, but think it might be of interest:
Kursaal Vaudeville this Thursday night, including Tumblerdryer Babies, Wendy Solomon, Southend poetry group, Mixamoatosis, The Voronas, Delusion (tap dancing) and a SILENT DISCO!
