About Lewis & Clark Musical Expedition
Lewis and Clark Musical Expedition /////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Judging from the way their names fit together, maybe it was always meant to be: Once Dana Clark met Kevin Lewis it was only a matter of time until they became “The Lewis and Clark Musical Expedition.” They are a husband and wife duo who have shared performing, teaching, songwriting, and recording for more than seven years. With Dana singing and playing keyboard, mandolin, guitar, sax and a variety of flutes, and Kevin on bass and guitar, they create a smorgasbord of sound that is never boring. They play a wide variety of styles and manage to make it all sound like it comes straight from the heart: Blues to Beethoven, ragtime to rock, folk to jazz. The lyrics to their original songs offer valuable insight into the human experience, and they enjoy making audiences laugh with their humorous songs. Richard Mekdeci of Itoi Ministries wrote, “Lewis and Clark are the perfect match of heart and soul, entertainment and inspiration, professionalism and playfulness. Their love for music and for each other radiates on and off stage.” //////////////////////////////////////////////////// Lewis and Clark have recorded two CDs of original compositions, the recently released “Disguised As Poetry” and the earlier “Trust Your Heart to Lead You Home.” They have published two songbooks that include everything on the CDs and more. Every Monday they host a musical gathering at the listening room Radius Café, where they create music with a wide variety of guest musicians. They are experienced performers who are equally at home in house concerts, coffeehouses, churches, clubs, retreat centers, and conferences. They play regularly at the Unity Church of San Antonio, where Dana has been Music Director for five years. Besides working as a duo, they often perform as part of the all-original concert band Light Travelers with fellow songwriters Kit Holmes, Janet O’Connor, and Chris Pfeiffer. They maintain a large mailing list, and email their newsletter every week to their fans to let them know where they are performing. To sign up for their mailing list, email Dana at : www.lewisandclarkmusic.com////////////////////////////// Their private lessons and workshops are based on the idea that music making is an essential part of the human experience, not the exclusive privilege of those with special talents. They teach all ages, providing instruction in piano, flute, guitar, bass, voice, and songwriting. Topics covered in their workshops include keyboard harmony and improvisation, songwriting, singing from the heart: technique and repertoire, and coaching on various instruments. Because of their inclusive approach they are able to accommodate all levels of ability, from beginners to professionals.////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// A veteran of the Chicago music scene, Dana played at clubs, hotels, and coffeehouses around the city and at over fifty colleges throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. After moving to San Antonio she became Local Task Force Leader for A Season for Nonviolence, making it her project to produce two compilation CDs of music from New Thought singer-songwriters: “Increase the Peace” and “Peace Is Our Birthright.” Sales of these CDs still benefit the Peace Center. While working with a coalition of social action groups, Lewis and Clark organized and participated in numerous community events. They staged many performances of the Peace Choir that Dana founded, and provided music for a rally with Arun Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, at the Arneson River Theater. On 9-11-2006 they organized the music for the Centennial Celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha, at which over 150 singers and musicians performed together. Dana was nominated for the 2007 Martin Luther King Distinguished Achievement Award for her work with the Peace Choir. Her songs have been published in several songbooks: Earth and Spirit Songbook edited by Jim Scott, May This Light Shine by Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network, and Special Services and Chants Vol. 1, by the Association of Unity Churches. Her non-fiction articles about music have appeared in the newsletter of independent film-maker Kell Kearns, www.heavenearth.net/articles.htm, and in the book Insights on the Journey: Trauma, Healing, and Wholeness, www.salsa.net/peace/ebooks. Her writing on “The Healing Power of Music” will soon appear in the Sound Connections Newsletter from Unity Association of Churches. She has played at the Riverwalk Hilton and Gini’s Restaurant. Together Lewis and Clark have played at Scenic Loop Café, Gruene Onion, Casbeers, Stefania’s, Dolores Del Rio, and the restaurant atop the Tower of the Americas.///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Owing to his well-trained ear and his musical intuition, Kevin Lewis is able to play with people he has just met as well as if they had been rehearsing for years! He was a regular member of Claude “Butch” Morgan’s Wednesday night band at Casbeers for five years, where he played with different guest musicians each week. At the 2007 Sound Connections Music Conference in Unity Village he played for several hours each night of Spirit Sharing, accompanying a steady stream of performers he’d never met as they each played one song. From 1991 to 2006 Kevin was an essential member of the band at Celebration Circle, an arts-based Sunday morning worship gathering. He has performed and recorded for over three decades, sharing the stage with numerous artists and groups including: Doug Sahm, Augie Meyers, Shawn Phillips, Tish Hinojosa, Stephanie Urbina-Jones, Rachel Bissex, Tom Prasada-Rao, Ruthie Foster & Cyd Cassone, Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines, Erja Lyytinen, Ruben V, Toat-Lee Bluz, Trinidad Pan Masters/World Tribe, Mark Monaco, Michael Waid, Rudolf Harst, Alisa Claridy, Will Owen-Gage, Johnsmith, Freebo, and the Kennedys. In 2006 he played for a three month musical production at the Josephine Theater, and he performed for the President of Finland with Jartse Tuominen’s band at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.///////////////////////////////////////////////// “Lewis and Clark are one of the best musical expeditions that you can go on! Explorers extraordinaire, they journey deeply into words that chart the committed heart and melodies that glide across the waters of life’s struggles and joys.” Rev. Ann Helmke, Animating Director, San Antonio Peace Center./////////////////////////// For bookings contact:///////////////// Dana Clark www.danapiano@sbcglobal.net 210-859-7889

Freedoms national day is here.Fire the guns and shout for freedom,See the flag above unfurled!Hail the stars and stripes forever,Dearest flag in all the world.

Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance.
Photobucket
In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved.

But in a larger sense we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men & women, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract.

Remember, Enjoy, Fight on!!!

It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure,to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful.
There is more security in the adventurous and exciting
because in movement there is life, and in change there is power...

And, with that thought in mind...
In case you're wondering why I'm
not my usual communicative self,
I am here but doing a lot of editing.
I'm working on a Peace/Motivational
video for a couple of friends. There
are about 60 images (average) per
montage, so it's quite time consuming.
I still have another couple of days to
go, so please bear with me. :)
Missing Everyone!
