In Autumn 2006 the Norfolk born singer-songwriter Lewis Garland pressganged
Bradley Blackwell (Double Bass), Drew Coleman (Mandolin, Guitar, Concertina) and Ben Wiffen (Clarinet, Percussion) into his services on board the good ship ‘Kett Rebellion’.
Over the last year the group have shared many an adventure...
The Big Green Gathering/Leamington Peace Festival, support for Nizlopi, Benji Kirkpatrick (Bellowhead), Devon Sproule, and 2006 Mercury Award nominated artist Lou Rhodes... luckily they have all managed to avoid scurvy to date.
Lewis Garland and the Kett Rebellion have been highly acclaimed for their energetic yet intimate performances, the group’s folk tinged sound providing the perfect complement to Lewis’s intricate, often caustic, wordplay.
What others have said...
"energetic folk-klezmer linked with clever wordplay "
The Coventry Evening Telegraph, Oct 2007
"a great voice, a brilliant guitarist and interesting lyrics... Lewis Garland is a singer songwriter with a difference"
BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire
"Really thoughtful lyrics"
Karine Polwart (winner of 2005 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards best album, best emerging artist and best original song)
"These young chancers from Coventry bucked the trend, turned down the PA and the stage and set up right in the middle of the barn!!! The folly of youth I thought - but then they started to play, people hushed and were treated to what in my mind was the best performance the Barn has seen so far. These guys are ridiculously good and gave a flavour to folk that I will want to taste for years to come" Promoter (Henley-on-Thames)

Monday 24th March! Baby Dee W/ The Bellows (Coventry) Taylor John's House Coventry Cv1 4LY £6 adv ~ 024 76 559 958 Baby Dee: Performance artist, songwriter, classically trained harpist, circus sideshow veteran, and transgender street legend Baby Dee was born in 1953 in Cleveland, OH. She spent ten years as music director and organist for a Catholic church in the Bronx before joining the circus as the bilateral hermaphrodite at Coney Island. This landed her a gig as the bandleader for performance art group the Bindlestiff Family Circus and a tour with the Kamikaze Freak Show in Europe. After moving back to New York City, she became a fixture in lower Manhattan with a street act on a high-rise tricycle with a concert harp. She recorded her first record, Little Window, on the Durtro label in 2000, a four-track EP in 2001, and her second full-length, the double-disc Love's Small Song, in 2002. Her latest album, Safe Inside The Day, was released in January.
The Bellows: If you hunger for the dark beauty of Nick Cave's murder ballads, the poetic chaos of Tom Wait's bone machine or the world weary woes of Johnny Cash's rambling characters.... This rag tag bunch of instrument swapping musicians stir a swampy cauldron of folk, country and blues, cooking up Cossack style upbeat to wistful melancholy.
Hey Yeah Randhir's ok thanks he's in manchester at the moment but i'll mention the saranghi for him if you want when he comes back. I think he mentioned that he played the dilruba for you once?
