Lewy started playing drums at the age of 2 if you count pots and pans in the mornings...and later started taking lessons with Gene Stewart, the director of percussion at Wayne State University at the age of 12, all the while playing and listening to rock bands and jazz bands and being influenced by the likes of Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, Louie Bellson, Bill Bruford, Steve Gadd, John Bonham, Simon Phillips, Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Ronnie Tutt, Ian Paice, Charlie Watts, Tony Williams, Terry Bozzio, Ringo Starr, Charlie Martin, and many others.
Lewy's first rock bands were with his classmates...Inferno, Last Chapter, and De Bene Esse' - several of the musicians from those groups are still playing professionally or semi pro or just for God like Lewy and they include - guitarist Tom Mein, keyboardist and composer Dan Siemert, singer and drummer Kory Clarke, bassist Bruce Green, and more.
Since those early days, Lewy always stayed in touch with Dan Siemert and together they co-produced a theatrical rock LP that became "Pieces of the Big Picture" in 2000-2001.
At the time Lewy was busy with family and running a financial services practice all the while just dying to play the drums and follow his dream of playing and helping others full time. So he did...he dove head first into music and was blessed to meet a lot of famous drummers and artists in Los Angeles and in Michigan and all over the world through the internet, all the while playing in a local rock band called 'Hide From Cleo' playing regionally, recording and playing with country singer song writer Dan Althouse Jr., playing drums in his local church praise band.
Fortunately, later branching out to meet Paul Underwood of Exit wound and Inyan by way of meeting new musician and drummer friends like Bill Lordan of Robin Trower and Sly & the Family Stone, and building a very supportive and caring fan base of his own including one very special lady named Morningstar who also encouraged Lewy to meet and speak with Paul Underwood about collaborating with Paul, who is one of The Official Nominees for the 2007 & 2008 Native American Music Awards Association and 2009 Silver Arrow Music Award winner. Lewy is also honored to be an honorary member of the Northern Cheyenne Nation through his talent as drummer/percussionist and ability to teach and reach out to all young children of the world.
Lewy has collaborated and/or played with many groups and artists such as King Arthur and The Royal Blues, The George Martha Band, and all era Elvis Presley Tribute Band, Bob Hughes, Mickey Strange, Donny Hartman, The Blues Abusers, and many others.
Lewy looks forward to every day playing music and helping others through his Drum Solo Cards business that he founded and was so blessed to be encouraged and supported by those very drummers he looked up to while growing up and now associates with not only as a drummer and percussionist but also as a fellow artist.
Lewy is blessed to be able to share his talents with all those who love music and the young kids who aspire to play some day, as he knows we are all music ambassadors to our younger generation, and should be there to help and inspire them to be great drummers, percussionists and artists in their own right some day.
Spin the Alien Graffiti Yello 'Bostich' Remix on Beatport
Hi Lewy, do you remember when back in the 80ies Electronic music was taking away all that rough electric guitar and psychedelic power of heroes like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eddie van Halen, Steve Vai... an endless list... Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Depeche Mode and avantgarde artists like Yello. I listen to Techno and House and I love that kind of music. But at the same time, I miss that certain kind of energy... That's why I decided to take part in the Yello 'Bostich' remix contest on beatport, which is the #1 download portal for electro, techno, dance, house, trance, whatever.... The Alien Graffiti remix of that mile stone in electronic music tries to bring back some of that lost electric guitar power to electronic music.
If you feel the same way and want to support Alien Graffiti on that mission, please vote for my remix on Beatport.
Thanks for listening! It's great to see that there are still people out there that dig old-school metal, everyone around here listens to what I call 'shitcore'. Anyway, how goes it?
