Sounds Like
Some Descriptions from The Press:
"a unique approach to music - for once eclectic is not a dirty word - Liam's very own fusion sound - a blend of rock, roots, world and jazz with splashes of psychedelic - Liam is all over the place but what a nice place to be all over - a folk/world/jazz/pop pourri that addresses no fashions and rides no bandwagons - every song is different - sort of a singer songwriter's band album, with its heart in roots music - it's folk but in a very modern way - it has the same attitude as country, but is urban based - Never trust genres. Verge is a classy release of excellent tunes!"
"Liam Macdonald's Verge is an absolute gem, which you really need to hear, a mélange of folk, world, jazz and rock. For once eclectic is not a dirty word."
~ Zeitgeist Magazine Tracks 1-5 are artier/edgier; tracks 6-10 are lighter:
He was going on five when Liam Macdonald began learning songs. These were mostly the old Scottish folk ballads and Irish rebel songs he heard grownups singing at family gatherings and neighborhood parties in voices made loud by whisky. When Liam was about 15 and living in Canada he got his first guitar, taught himself to play and began performing in bands for dances, parties, clubs and festivals. Three years later his career kicked up a notch when he moved to New York to perform mainly as a singer/songwriter. Next he moved to Munich, Germany for several years and then back to New York.
"Verge" is Liam Macdonald's first, solo CD. It was produced in New York and New Jersey by Tim Carbone from the band, Railroad Earth, and has won numerous awards from Billboard as well as the "Record of the Year" award from Radio Six International in Scotland. The following quotes are from the reviews:
"an aural treat by any standards - should be all over the radio - captivating - fascinating - multi-dimensional - an absolute gem, which you really need to hear - mightily impressed by a new talent - Liam's guitar work is stunning, his singing superb - a great sense of rhythm - his rich, deep voice brings out another dimension from the songs - jangle-tastic - tumultuous and satisfying - VERY cool - richly creative -these songs are anything but dull"
Reviewers have also noted that the songs on Verge are quite different from one another. (e.g. Compare "Smiling Faces" or "Please Tell Me" with "Man Woman Child" or "nemOmen.") Chris Tighe, in a critique for the British Independent Record Dealers' Magazine, put it this way: "Verge really ought to be incoherent, incomprehensible and unapproachable. It is, of course, none of the above. A triumph of instinct over logic, then."
Liam is currently recording a series of single tracks for digital download. They are being produced in Copenhagen and Munich by Alain Nkossi Konda, the multi-talented Founder of Afrikool Records. So far, the following songs from these "Copenhagen Sessions" have received awards from Billboard and other international songwriting competitions: "City of Trees," "In an Open Space," "You Can Never Tell" and "Black and You" (a.k.a. "Black & You" and in Asia as both "Black Y You" and "Balck & You").
Black and You is included on Afrikool Records' 2007 release "For Africa Vol. 1." Proceeds from this CD are being donated to five charities: The Water Foundation; IFAM; The Shaken Baby Alliance; Amnesty International and Sens Afrique. The other performers who contributed to For Africa Vol. 1 are: Gilberto Gil; Lou Bega; Kanda Bongo Man; Selasee Atiase; Zani; Zifa; Manu Di Bango; Alain Nkossi Konda; K.I.F.; Jim Savitt; Muna Mingole; Micko Leao; Bless; Mr. Reo.

Hey thanks for coming by and taking a look around...thank you for accepting my friends request. The resolution I've written is not secession by any means, and is actually opposed to anything that hurts the Union, as stated within. It's simply the reaffirmation of the sovereign powers under the Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.
Good stuff on your page, by the way. I always love finding new music around MySpace. My iPod, however clogged with endless everything it is, gets boring after a while.

Antigua?! I'm envious..... :-) Love to travel! Never travelled west though, 'only' east and south (Australia, Seychelles e g). Bet you're having a good time! Enjoy your Easter! All the best from the Swedish westcoast, where it at least has been +13C in the shadows and sunny and springflowers are out. Auli
Hope the Spring has that great sense of vitality for you. Is it getting green there? Just remember, we're down here already fighting the weeds and lawn.
