Born in Milan the 12/3/1975, he has started piano studies at the age of seven with Lina Bodini Mazza and Lorena Portalupi. Later, he continued his studies at the Conservatory "G. Verdi" of Milan, with Piero Rattalino. In the same school he has studied Composition with Davide Anzaghi and he has obtained his Master's Degree in Composition under the guidance of Paolo Rimoldi. In 1990 he begun Jazz studies with Daniele di Gregorio and Michael Rosen.
In 1992, he has been selected as pianist of an EEC Big Band project founded in Bologna, where he has played under the direction of, among the others, Kenny Wheeler, Michael Gibbs and George Russell. In the same period, he has collaborated with many italian jazz players, most notably with Tiziana Ghiglioni, Attilio Zanchi, Giorgio Buratti and Fabrizio Bosso. Later, his main interest moved towards improvised music, with long-standing collaborations with Giovanni Falzone, and since 1999, with the Chant Trio, with drummer Cristiano Calcagnile and bassist Antonio Borghini.
As player and arranger, he has worked in many fields of popular music, in particular with indie rock singer Cristina Donà, and funk/hip-hop leading italian artists, as Alessio Bertallot, Radical Stuff, and recently with dj's duo Bungalow Zen. As stage composer he has worked with numerous actors and directors, as Filippo Crivelli, Mario Cei, Alessandro Quasimodo, Sabina Villa, Amedeo Romeo.
Parallelly to the composition, he started electronic music studies with Alessandro Melchiorre and later at the prestigious Sibelius Academy of Helsinki, where he is attending the Master of Music degree program in Music Technology, with teachers Andrew Bentley, Michael Laurson and Robert de Godzinsky. As composer, he is particularly interested is exploring the possibilities of the Yamaha Disklavier, both as a standalone instrument and in a real-time performance with a pianist. He has assisted artists as Jean-Claude Risset, the Uusinta string quartet, Susanne Frölich and collaborated with German label "col legno".
His longtime interest for baroque and rennaissance music brought him in recent years to include in his projects the harpsichord, the pipe organ and the clavichord. He founded in 2005 with norwegian guitarist and theorbo player Solmund Nystabakk a duo called "Ricercari", a project dedicated to the improvisation also on early music compositions. Recently, Ricercari has become a trio, with viennese french horn player Elena Kakaliagou.
Because of his broad instrumental, compositional and technological knowledge, Libero Mureddu is an esteemed producer and sound engineer and he has worked with artists as Davide Cabassi, Tatiana Larionova, Newtone2060 and the Chant trio.
In his contribution with the Chant trio is possible to observe a synthesis of his present artistic research, that includes the electronic music and the digital technology resources, the western classical tradition and the improvisation.

Déploration pour la mort de G. L.
A composition for solo Disklavier, in which I started to explore the musical possibilities of 88 indipendent rhythmical entities (one for each piano key). More detailed information here
Improvisation sur Echo improvisation using the Yamaha Disklavier and a Max/MSP patch by Jean Claude Risset for its composition called 'Echo'(used with his kind permission).
The patch implements a very simple process: it provided two "echoes in canon" of the input, with a prescribed delay and a transposition in pitch (lower or higher) and in tempo (slower or faster).

It was great to meet you as well. Sorry about your comments not showing up. They have all suddenly appeared this morning! Good luck with that accordion. I started learning it last Christmas but have struggled to find the time to concentrate on it properly, plus I have never played piano either so it is very hard. But I do enjoy it. Hope you get an instrument soon.
Oh and yes I LOVE Apocalyptica. I have seen them quite a few times now and think they are wonderful. Lots of brilliant music in Finland, you lucky thing. You are a very talented man you know. Your profile is really interesting to read.
And I think 40 degrees is a bit hot really. But we Glaswegians are experts at complaining about the weather - always too hot or too cold. Have a good weekend and hope to meet you again somewhere along the line.

Il 6-7-8 aprile 2009, al RIALTO SANT'AMBROGIO (Roma, Via di S. Ambrogio 4, presso Largo Argentina) terrò il seminario "IL SUONO E L'IMMAGINE. MUSICA, VOCE, RUMORE E SILENZIO NEL FILM", articolato in tre incontri intensivi (ognuno di 3 ore):

Attraverso l’analisi di numerose sequenze (da "Frankenstein Junior" a "Shining", dai Monty Python a Tarkovskij, da "Sussurri e grida" a "Psycho"...), parlerò di suono cinematografico a 360 gradi: fatto non solo di musica, ma anche di parole, di rumori e persino della propria assenza.
Il seminario è rivolto non soltanto a professionisti (o aspiranti professionisti) del settore cinematografico, musicale o della musica da film, ma anche a semplici appassionati, curiosi di approfondire un tema (il suono nel cinema) generalmente relegato nello spazio di un capitolo di qualche saggio sul linguaggio cinematografico e trascurato dai percorsi formativi cine-televisivi.

A "coronamento" del seminario, seguirà - GIOV 9 aprile 2009, ore 22:30 - una performance audiovisiva che vedrà Massimo Ceccarelli (contabbasso + loop station), Renato Ciunfrini (sassofoni), Stefano Giust (batteria) nel live integrale di "Chimera" (mio ultimo progetto sperimentale), che in questa occasione accompagnerà dal vivo la proiezione del film muto - edito dalla RaroVideo - "A memoria" (1996) di Ciprì e Maresco.
