HTTP://WWW.IPSC.IE *** CONSUMER BOYCOTT of ISRAELI GOODS *** The IPSC have developed a new resource for activists to log the presence of Israeli products in shops around Ireland. The 'Boycott Map of Ireland' will display up-to-date information about the presence of Israeli products in stores in every county of Ireland. *** You can download the Boycott Map and get more updates and information on ongoing campaigns to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people: .. *** However, in order for this tool to be effective, we need your support. At present there is very little information in the map. We need people, when out doing their shopping etc, to log the presence of any Israeli goods they see, what store they are in, what town, county etc. Then you can fill in one of the boycott submission forms and email it to the IPSC Boycott Officer who will add the information to the Boycott Map. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoMAgpJABK0 ***** VIDEOS: Keep it Underground - Music Board of Ireland (1 of 2) Watch and Discuss *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLjAETnKBiA *** Music Board of Ireland (2 of 2) *** Here’s a music documentary you won’t be seeing in its entirety on Irish TV any time soon. Lindsey from Second Aspect (now Manina films) made a film examining the failure of the Music Board of Ireland and ruffled a few feathers in the process. *<>*The Music Board was established on an interim basis for the period May 2001 to May 2004 in partnership between Government, as represented by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism, and the Industry, as represented by the IBEC Music Industry Group. Its proposed role was to act as a forum for the industry; to devise and actively promote strategic policies for the development of the music industry and the maximisation of its contribution to the national economy; and to assist Government and its agencies in their efforts to develop the industry nationally and internationally. *<>* The Board’s major undertaking, a report on The Economic Significance of the Irish Music Industry proposed a strategic plan for the development of the music industry (that phrase again!) in Ireland, called Shaping the Future, and these were presented to the Minister. However, in the absence of any positive response and, most importantly, further funding, it seems the Board had no choice but to wind up. *<>* The documentary features talking head interviews with Channel One, Humanzi, Director, On the Record’s Jim Carroll, Angela Dorgan, Twin Kranes, Dave Fanning and a dismal “interview” from the then minister for Arts, Tourism and Sport John O’ Donoghue whose on-camera refusal to answer questions does nothing to dispel the notion that the government couldn’t care less about popular Irish music. *<>* According to Lindsey, she was warned “that by showing a certain individual in a bad light then I would be shooting myself in the foot because my film would not be accepted into film festivals or shown on TV. The Last Broadcast on RTE showed part of my film but refused to air the entirety, omitting the scene with this particular individual.I felt that the film would not prove the point I was trying to make if I left the scene out so I made the decision to keep it. Unfortunately I underestimated how much fear people have for this man. The power that he holds over funding for arts makes sure that he can maintain a good image. The only place my film was actually seen in its entirety was in Wales where it was a runner up in the Screen Academy Wales student awards.” *<>* So Lindsey had no choice but to release it on the internet. ******************************** ODE <><><> Arthur William Edgar O'Shaughnessy *** We are the music makers, And we are the dreamer of dreams, Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams; World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams: Yet we are the movers and shakers, Of the world for ever, it seems. <> EXTRACT from The Shock Doctrine: chapter 12 <> THE CAPITALIST ID <><> .....On the day I went to visit Jeffrey SACHS in October 2006, New York city was under a damp blanket of gray drizzle punctuated, every five paces or so, by a vibrant burst of red. It was the week of the grand launch of BONO'S (Product) Red brand, and the city was getting the full blitz. Red iPods and Armani sunglasses loomed from billboards overhead, every bus shelter featured Steven SPIELBERG or Penélope CRUZ in a different red garment, every GAP outlet in the city had given itself over to the launch, and the APPLE store on Fifth Avenue was emitting a rosy glow. "Can a tank top change the world?" asked one ad. Yes it can, we are assured, because a portion of the profits was going to the Global Fund to FIGHT AIDS, TB and malaria. "Shop till it stops!" BONO had produced, in the midst of a televised shopping spree with OPRAH a couple of days earlier. <><> I had a hunch that most of the journalists wanting to talk to SACHS that week would be looking for the superstar economist's view on this fashionable new way to raise aid money. After all, BONO refers to SACHS as "my profesor", and a photo of the two men greeted me as I entered SACH'S office at Columbia University (he left Harvard in 2002). In the midst of all this glamorous charity, I felt like a bit of spoiler, because I wanted to talk about the professor's least favorite topic of all, one that has prompted him to threaten to hang up on reporters mid-interview. I wanted to talk about Russia and what went wrong there. <><> It was in Russia, after the first year of shock therapy, that SACHS began his own transition, from global shock doctor to one of the world's most outspoken that, in the years since, has put him in a conflict with many former colleagues and collaborators in the orthodox economic circles. As far as SACHS is concerned, he isn't the one who changed - he was always committed to helping countries develop market-based economies bolstered by generous aid and debt forgiviness. For years he had found it possible to achieve these goals by working in partnership with the IMF and the U.S. Treasury. But by the time he was on the ground in Russia, the tenor of discussion had changed and he came up against a level of official indifference that shocked him and pushed him into a more confrontational stance with Washington's economic establishment..... <> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Sachs <> Make Poverty (and rich hypocrites) History - Bono....

Who I'd like to meet:

The leaders who will push this country on the road to genuine Socialism, which will end the slavery of workers, end the misery of the people 'at the 'bottom' of our society, give our elderly people a dignified and decent final few years, and in so doing all this, will carve a template for our children and our children's children, for a better society, another society with another system, a system called Socialism, a real and genuine Socialism that is based on the love of Humanity as it's cornerstone.

    Hi Michael,

thanks for dropping in! Well, I only went one evening to the small concert of U2 in front of the Brandenburg Gate - and I can tell you, it was sooooooo fantastic. The Gate had been shown in different colors and with special lightening and all these people in front of it! It was a peaceful atmosphere and the people came from all parts of the world, a fantastic mixture.

In November I spend a week in New York. That was fantastic as well. There is an amazing ballet school, where I attended some lessons and of course the parks had been gorgeous. Unbelievable, but true: you can really relax in this lively city.

How are you?! I guess busy when I read about all the action on your page. Any special plans for december and christmas?

Due to the warm weather it's difficult to get a christmas-feeling. Well, but hot wine punch tastes good anyhow ;-)

    Have a great week!

    Cheers, Nicola.

Thank you too, we all know what one person can do, even though thousands, at least hundreds are more like it. But, one person makes a huge difference, one person ( Martin Luther King Jr., JFK, Ghandi and many more ) one picture can make a difference, remember those Vietnam era LIFE magazine cover photo's ? Completely unforgetable, as is what you do ... my hats off to you, for your good works...

Good Morning ( well it's morning here ) ... it's almost our Thanksgiving holiday and I wanted you to know that I am thankful for you, you are doing great and amazing things, you are making a difference and your passion and talents are so needed and welcome ... it takes a special person to be so devoted to opening the eyes, hearts and minds of the rest of us, I for one, am grateful for you and people like you. You are tipping the scale in favor of awareness ... thank you.

Course! This party no longer exists because it was replaced by the Left Bloc in which me and many others teachers have voted. The secretary of this part is an economist with good ideas but unfortunately he was not fully accepted by the majority as he deserved. Problem is, in my opinion, that portuguese people has conservative ideas even if they do not know what that means in their lives...

    Hi Michael,

great that all is well with you. Yeah, busy....I guess that's what most of the people are. At least I had a great weekend with a lot of sun, a bit of cinema and at least some time left for my writing. I've almost finished a big part of my exposé - so there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
If you're heading to Berlin, why not meeting you for a cup of coffee or a beer?! We could drink to Brians new album ;-)
    Have a great week, Nicola.
