Yeah, I guess so. It's just not the kind of town that gets into it, too. The kids like it, at least the ones who go haha. But yeah, a lot of my friends' parents won't let them go to shows at "that tattoo place". Or let them be out much past ten, if they're allowed out at night at all. I'm so glad I have the parents I have!
Alright, cool! Thanks! So there are coffeeshops over there that have electric shows?
And yeah! Like I've been going to so many of the smaller shows that last time I went to something really big- it was Jack's Mannequin and the Fray in Chula Vista- it didn't really amaze me. Like, I've gotten so used to being able to see the emotion on people's faces and getting sweated on by everyone that it was almost kind of... too easy! I almost like having to fight for my spot in the front row. It's kind of nice to get pushed during some band's set. I don't know about you, but that's just my opinion. I used to hate it. But now it's just part of the music to me. Especially when it's hardcore. ;]
Well, I actually don't live in Santa Maria proper. We aren't actually within the city limit. But like, we put Santa Maria as our city on mail and stuff. What my point is is that I don't know how close-knit or conservative actual Santa Maria is. There are definitely very conservative neighborhoods around, but the city as a whole I'm not sure about. The main reason there's only the one venue now is that the other place that would actually do electric shows didn't renew their license to have shows, and the place that SOMETIMES would do electric shows got too many complaints from people so they had to stop having shows. And the two coffeeshops that would actually do acoustic shows closed too... They went out of business. It really sucks for the scene. But the venue that's still around is the best of them here anyway. :)
Aaah. 21+ shows are no fun for me-- since I can't get in! Haha. But that's cool. Though I would rather be at a non-coffeshop show if I can be at a different show. ;D And I think I've heard of Soma. Idk, pretty much any show would be chill. I just think shows that you can get close to the stage and talk to the band members after the show is over are more fun. =)
Well, I would want to stay longer, but the reason I'm going back with my dad is because I want to be home for New Year's Eve. I'm actually going to be judging at the Battle of the Bands show at the now only venue in Santa Maria that will do these kinds of shows! It's going to be great :)
Haha yeah! I think I'd like going to a smaller, local show more than a big one. I'd love to see the local scene in San Diego! Cuz there's such a big different between mainstream stuff in local venues and local bands playing in local venues... I mean, I like both, but it would be cool to get a taste of real local San Diego. =D
Ok cool! Though I think it'll be a really short visit. Like, three and a half days. At least for my dad and me. My mom and sister are staying a while longer. But we're almost definitely coming back in the spring and summer! So maybe we can catch a show or something. :)
