Bio
.. .... .. .. Light's Reach continues to shine. .. .. "I was talking to Randy about this at our favorite Mexican restaurant," says Dave Dawdy, guitarist for Light's Reach, recounting the origins of the band "We got excited about the idea of getting together with Eric and recording some electric 'mood music'. The three of us met and decided to try to write and record the music 'off the cuff'." And that's what they did. This was a big step for Dawdy as he had left the music scene two decades earlier after a growing disillusionment. After years as guitarist in a local band, he decided to hang it up and walk away, never sure that he would look back. It took prodding by an old cohort and bandmate, Randall Carlson to put down a few tracks at his location, Zephyr Studio, before getting the experience to really embrace the idea of getting together with Illegible Records. Eric Blades, keyboardist for the group as well as the album's producer remembers it in a similiar fashion "I recall saying something along the lines of 'I need another project to play in like I need another hole in the head'. But as soon as they mentioned that they were thinking of keyboards for me... well, I was intrigued." The three of them met for dinner and then retired to Eric's house to begin fleshing out ideas, little knowing that they would complete half an album in one sitting. .. "We did the whole first album, writing and recording in the space of two afternoon/evening sessions at Illegible Studios" says Dawdy, looking back "We were shooting for 40 minutes of material, and ended up with over an hour. What came out of those two sessions is here on this CD." The project, eventually named Light's Reach, was most pleasing to Blades who was juggling other projects at the time as he marveled that the sessions went so smoothly and so quickly. Carlson concurs, when confronted with the obvious question of whether a project completed from start to finish in less than 12 hours can be of superior quality "I am not in the least bit disappointed in the musical chemistry that has begun to develop in this group.” The trio next plans to rehearse and ready for the release of it's 2nd album and, hopefully, embark on a tour of coffee shops throughout Michigan and, perhaps someday, beyond. The continued success of the recording and the chemistry itself has already sparked the group into discussions of more musical experimentation. "We are all proud of what comes out of our sessions," says Dawdy "and know that there is a lot more on tap for the future." .. .. ..I edited my profile at night... .. .. .. .... .. .... .. .... .. .... .. .. .. -
