our influences: life, love, death, watching the tide roll in at sunrise, hope, lust, the first drop of rain on your tongue, loneliness, loud guitars, soft pianos, war, peace addiction, despair, anxiety, faith, relationships, god, family, poetry, songwriters, art in all forms, dreams, first kisses, heartbreak, girls, regret, corrupt politicians, the words we write on walls, self medication, those who sacrifice themselves for others, people who make the world a better place, and those in need of a helping hand. oh, and vic really likes the foo fighters.

We've had a hell of a time trying to create a bio that we all like, and since we don't quite have the money to hire a publicist to write something really clever (or cliche) for us - "Like Satellites combines the influences of all of its members into a sound that is both unique and familiar, and is ready to take rock radio by storm in the coming months!" - I'd rather spend a second telling you who we are minus the marketing BS.
Like Satellites started in the summer of 2007. Dave and I wrote and arranged a bunch of songs at his house. Some of them were good. Some of them were terrible. Some of them are on our myspace player right now. Over the next couple months, we added Derek on bass (he and I had played in a band called Greater Grey before) and Vic on drums and we started rehearsing in this old house I used to rent that had no A/C and was about 103 degrees all the time. Later, we moved into a more comfortable rehearsal space.
Last November, we started recording our debut ep, which we cleverly named "Like Satellites (ep)," mainly because we couldn't agree on anything else. We worked with Brett Hestla, and in between rounds of a game called chicken bottle and recording sessions that lasted until sunrise, we managed to record six songs: Sundays at Sunset, Queen of Almost, Burned Alive, Innocent, Broken Bottles in Manhattan, and Bastards.
We got the record mixed and mastered in July 2008 (technical problems, don't ask). As I write this, it's about to be replicated and printed, which means we should have the CDs up for sale on this site pretty soon (assuming the check doesn't bounce). In the meantime, we've been playing shows all over the state with a lot of great bands at a lot of great venues, and we really appreciate those of you who've come out to support us. As for those of you who haven't ... well, you should. It's good times. :)
Long story short: I write songs that I hope will connect to people. For the most part, they're about all the things all of us experience at some point in our lives: love, fear, loneliness, etc. They're personal, but kind of universal too. And hopefully, they're done in a way that makes you want to sing along.
So that's the story so far. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
- Jeff
