Lilac Inferno is comprised of at least 35 (and growing!) artists from across Texas and the United States working together to promote artistic expression as a critical form of communication and human connection. As potential and emerging artists, there are two potential careers for the contemporary artist: college funded art prospects severely disconnected from the public or creatively constricting jobs in the industry, beholden to the current trends and whoever pays the check. LILAC offers a solution: the consolidation and exhibition of the artistic middle class. This term represents a rising demographic of underground and public artists who create inspirational and unconventional artwork that does not necessarily achieve commercial success, but also does not sacrifice accessibility for the sake of innovation and intelligence: LILAC does not enjoin “high art” to the realm of scholars and university institutions. A wide variety of art forms, styles, and technical knowledge sustain such an endeavor, as well as a similar diversity of backgrounds and cultural experiences: some attend college, others have careers and some are full-time artists. Despite this, we all share a dedication to the artwork itself and its uncanny ability to form communities.
