Lili Sommerfeld is a young singer, composer and pianist with German/Israeli roots. She was born in Berlin, Germany and grew up in Berlin, Munich and Rome. She lives in Berlin.
Lili started to learn piano in the age of 4 and started to play gigs as a singer in the age of 14. When she was 13 she started to write, besides writing lots of pop/jazz songs, a musical called "London's Night" which was played by her high school in July 2002 in Munich. In this age she also made her first experiences as a conductor, actress, dancer, choreographer and director.
Shortly after that she founded a girls choir named Swing4U and was the conductor of it for 3 years. Besides most of the Arrangements of popular Swing Standards, Lili wrote also the high-praised piece "Music!" for the choir and presented it the first time at the Kuenstlerhaus Munich.
In the age of 15 Lili also started to write contemporary classical music for chamber ensembles and larger Ensembles. In this period she wrote pieces like "Two Fantasies and a Nocturne" for Cello and Piano, "Sad Haiti" for Cembalo, "The Riot" for 3 Pianos, 2 Clarinets, Flute, Guitar, violin and Cello, "Fantasia in d minor" for Piano, "Colors of Marimba" for Piano, “Tango para Julia” for Violin, Bass and Piano, the melodrama "The Fairytale of D-Sharp" for Symphony Orchestra. Later she also wrote the Aria "Dove sei?" for Soprano and Symphony Orchestra and her first String quintet. Her piano improvising project, together with her friend Nadine Wickert, which played only music by the fictional character Igor Pjetrovic, won many awards in Germany.
As Lili changed High Schools, she started to play in bands regularly. As a Singer, Pianist and Songwriter for the crossover/rock band "Looney Monday" she played at the National Garden Festival 2005. Her French Chanson Project with Singer Nicole Marischka brought her to Bonn, where she played at the former Bundestag. With her Jazz band "Jazzonanz" she played at many Jazz clubs in Munich and one time even at the new built "Allianz Arena". (See also: www.myspace.com/jazzonanz) In this time she recorded her first EP “Jazzolution” with Jazz songs she wrote for Jazzonanz.
In spring 2005 she also released the album “Let’s enter the garden” with the Klezmer-Lounge Band Satsooma (Elite records).
After moving to Berlin in fall 2006 she recorded her first Solo Album “Impossibilities” at bunnyheath studios, Berlin and Southstar Records released it.
Later she starred in the 2007 Berlin Revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” in the role of Joanne. In summer 2007 she toured with “The Ladies who Lunch”, a two-women-jazz-show (www.myspace.com/ladieslunch).
In fall 2007 she moved to Boston, Massachusetts to study at Berklee College of Music on scholarship.
After 3 months in Tel Aviv, Israel in 2008 she moved back to Berlin where she conducted the musical "Celebration" (see also: www.hierleben.net)
Now she lives in Berlin and works as a musical director, arranger, songwriter and singer/pianist.
