About MOOK: New Street Anthem Just Posted !They Know!
Through a sea of fakes emerges an artist that’s real. Speaking from his own life experience, rapper Mautez Maurice Lee Jr. (better known as “Mook”) brings a message of endurance and optimism. At 20-years-old, Mook acts as a leader to everyone striving for success in life. In songs such as “Put Ya Face Down” and “Rewind Time,” Mook sets an example by demonstrating how he has reached for his dreams, despite the many losses and struggles life has faced him with. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Mook was exposed to things like drugs and violence at a young age. Mook, however, had the ability to see beyond this, as he was always exceptionally bright. At 10-years-old, Mook was recognized in the local newspaper for writing the best story out of his entire fifth grade class. So it's no surprise that his talent carried over when he picked up rapping at age 16. He credits his talents to his mother, who Mook says "was always hard on me, expected nothing less than perfection from me. That's why everything I did, I had to be perfect. The best."
Some people may know Mook as "A-1", from his first mixtape "Million Dollar Dreams of A-1: Part1." Million Dollar Dreams of A-1: Part 1 generated a buzz on myspace and in the streets in 2007. Loosing his uncle to heroine overdose (August, 2008), and his father to an unsolved murder (November, 2008), has only served as motivation for Mook to put out his self-titled debut album, “Mook Life,” which is expected to drop in Winter, 2009. The album “Mook Life” is titled after the late Mautez Lee Sr., who Mook says “had the words ‘Mook Life’ on the screen saver of his cell phone when he was killed.”
Mook Life is comprised of straight swagg music, motivational music, club bangers, and more. All tracks on the album were written by Mook, and some of the tracks produced by him, as well. Songs like “If You Say” (featuring singer/ song-writer Rockie B.) and “She Like Dat” will be favorites of the ladies, whereas songs like “Put Some Swagg” will be an anthem for the men. A smooth flow meets with smart-mouth word-play to give Mook incredible swagger in his music. In an audio AND visual-based industry, Mook's star power is doubled in that his image reflects the same swagger. With high sex-appeal, he has the ability to resonate with the main-stream as well as the streets. His style is commercial enough to make radio hits, and honest enough to speak to any hood. With a fan-base so diverse, and a voice so strong, not only will Mook make a name for himself, but it is not unlikely that he will make a mark on history.
Anyone who listens to Mook’s music can tell that his mind is far beyond his years. Anyone that watches him perform can see that his style is far beyond average. Overall, Mook is the full package artist that they want, with a message that they need. Get ready world--there’s a new super star in town!
