Lilyphone is a Danish/ Norwegian band consisting of Marie Keis Uhre (lead vocals, guitar), Jakob Thomhav (guitar, backing vocals), Thomas Bang (double-bass, backing vocals) and Thomas Steen Hansen (drums, percussion, cajon & backing vocals). The trademark of Lilyphone's music is that it is full of atmosphere and at the same time very captivating.
“The good tune” is the foundation of every song. Lilyphone is the combination of innovative and quality conscious musicians and Marie’s unique voice. The music is serene and atmospheric and is sprinkled with beautiful lyrics. Lilyphone has existed for a couple of years and they have spent many hours finding their sound as a band as well as working on new songs.
Marie is a 28 year old composer and singer from Copenhagen, Denmark, inspired by names such as Etta James, Gillian Welch, Sheryl Crow, that has found her own and very personal sound. Lyrics and melodies are created on the dobro or guitar and are catchy, easy listening yet deep and original. Maries voice is light and soft and creates a strong trademark for her as an artist.
Thomas Bang (Double-bass & Backing vocals) Thomas is the Norwegian touch in Lilyphone. He is very charismatic and full of energy and joy when he playing double-bass. He has his own unique sound and draws on improvisation and a free musical universe. This free approach is of great value to Lilyphone and helps give the band their unique sound. Thomas is also a fantastic backing vocalist and more often than not, his voice can be heard on Lilyphone’s tracks.
Jakob Thomhav (Guitar & Backing vocals) Jakob is a very original and talented guitarist. The music just flows when Jakob is playing the guitar and he has a vital role in the musical expression of Lilyphone. The acoustic guitar’s pure and honest sound is his finest touch. Jakob is the new, inspirational touch in Lilyphone as he joined the band in November 2005.
Thomas Steen Hansen (Drums/Cajon & Backing vocals) Thomas plays the drums as well as the cajon in Lilyphone. The cajon has been brought home from Cuba where Thomas studied percussion for an extensive period of time. The cajon is very inconspicuous and at first glance it resembles an old box with a hole in it but the cajon has charm and life indeed. It has a characteristic sound which is an important part of Lillyphone’s unique sound. Thomas has been in touch with various different musical genres in many different countries and has found inspiration in the musical cultures of Cuba, Ghana and Brazil. He is not just an original drummer with his scratchy, simple sound and style; he is also a sublime percussionist with an acute feeling for the general expression of Lillyphone's music.
