Sounds Like
If Mozart was to fall out of a tree, and as he fell, let out a cry of bewildered terror, that echoed across eternity, it would never sound like us.
Limbo Land hail from the greater Newcastle area, (the drummer only just makes it in.) Where they live, laugh, love, and argue over song structure. The band's story starts in mid November 2007 with the first emergence of the group coming from the opening of Rock Cave Music, located in Charmhaven on the Central Coast. Limbo Land's sound is centered in Heavy Rock which branches out to comprise each member's eclectic tastes, which vary from Alice In Chains, Black Sabbath, and Rage Against The Machine, to The Beatles, The Killers and Muse.
The minds and abilities that pump life into this beast call themselves: Tim (Tim) Kellaway. (Vocals, Guitar.)
David (Dave) Seddon. (Bass Guitar.)
Joe (Joey) Dennerley. (Drums.)
A classroom at the Hunter Institute of Technology (TAFE Newcastle Campus) was the beginnings of Limbo Land. Tim and Dave met in class at TAFE while both were pretending to study. After forming a hetero-bond of sorts Dave was asked to join Tim's current project, Stretch, an acoustic duo based in Sydney. After several jams, Tim's partner in Stretch expressed his desire to leave the group. Tim and Dave called him a lame face and then went on the search for new band members and a new direction, in between finding different ways to irritate their Ancient History teacher.
They found their first drummer, Brendan Mitchell (Brendo) through an advertisement he had placed in the Drum Shop, Newcastle. Then the trio spent several months searching for a suitable guitarist. Towards the end of the semester Tim was completing work experience in the music section of the TAFE
when he met Sean Mcguire, the self professed “most handsomest bestest guitar guy ever.” Debate still rages on as to the validity of this claim.
The band moved forward but it soon became clear that Brendo was not the man for the job. The band had begun looking for a replacement when Brendo was offered a job he couldn't refuse out of town, thus avoiding the sticky situation of firing him. The drummer moved away but without missing a step Limbo Land sent an invite, through Sean, to an old friend of his whom he had been jamming with since his early teens, to audition for the band. "Hurricane" Joe arrived in the passenger seat of Sean's car and blew everyone's eyebrows off with his complex progressive drumming style, impressive height, and eyebrow removal kit. Limbo Land was reborn.
The next few months were a series of steady successful gigs for Limbo Land, but the wheels fell off when Sean decided the band wasn't what he wanted out of music, and left for his ideal greener pastures, as well as to purse a life in the Metro community The band was shocked. How were the drums to be transported now? Stealing their resolve (after a few months of weeping) Dave, Tim, and Joe began to rehearse and write again, with Tim on guitar. While the band is open to completing the lineup with another guitarist, they still wish to proceed with writing, gigging, and even recording as a sensual threesome.
The band hopes to pick up speed once more, and conquer the musical scene of Newcastle and eventually the whole coast. Passing their modest achievements of performing at such stages as Hurlstone Park RSL-Sydney, Asquith Leagues-Sydney, Souths Junior Leagues-Sydney, The Cambridge, Hotel-Newcastle and the Queens Wharf Brewery in Newcastle and Maitland's hunter valley brewery.
Some praise...
"It's great to see a young band with some dynamics on the stage, you guys have some really tight grooves and the vocals are a breeze to record! Would be great to hear you play again."
