There have been many musicians, and individuals in my life that have made enormous contributions to the woman, mother, teacher, and musician that i am today. First and foremost, to God, from whom all blessings flow....and of course my mom, dad, and dearest Gramma Rose. They were the foundation of who i am today, and i think about them so often. I studied with the great Claudio Vasquez from Panama during my college years, who drilled me on the works of Hector Villa Lobos, Scriabin, Debussy, and of course the masters, Bach, Mozart, Beethovan, and Chopin. The Revolutionary Etude remains one of my all time favorites. Through the years, my reportoire with the choirs i direct, has grown to include works from Kirk Franklin, Richard Smallwood, Fred Hammond, and other gospel greats. I love the jazz standards with Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Chick Corea, Charlie Parker, Diana Krall, Eva Cassidy, and so many other greats, its mind boggling!. Locally, I've had the pleasure of working with, or learning from musicians such as Dr. Jackie Peoples, Ella Robinson, Doug Trigger Gaston, Sabu Adeola, Harlold Harden, Frank Scinta, Bilahl Abdullah, R. Odell Northington, Joe Parisi, Walter Kemp, Karen Williams, "The Union", and soooooooo many talented students, (Brandon, George, Connor, Yolanda, Liz, Maddy, Kate, Christopher, Cordero, Cassie....and to alllll of my South Park Students, Olmsted Students, and City Honors students. i love you all.................)that I have been blessed to be a part of their lives. And last but not least, my two beautiful daughters, who i love with everything that i am, Venezia, and Zuri......they have been my inspiration, and impetus for so many things. Zuri, with her amazing talents on the bass, and vocals, and an ear to die for.....(watch out all of you bass players out there!.....when she's done with the Marine Band, nobody is going to touch her!)....and Venezia.....the mental wiz at just about everything she comes into contact with, not to mention her shy, but extraordinary abilities on the piano. MUCH LOVE!!!!!!!!!We are all in this together, and the sharing, and collaberative learning and growth is truely a blessing in itself.

My career has spanned teaching at numerous schools, however most of my career involved students at the Frederick Law Olmsted 56 school, City Honors, and presently at South Park High School. Students under my direction have had a wide and varied list of accomplishments ranging from performances at Kleinhan's Music Hall, Rockwell Hall, Shea's theater, a professional broadway show, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", the Traf, Mayor Masiello's inauguration, and for the head of state in Albany, including the present mayor of Buffalo, Mayor Byron Brown. Students have also performed with and in conjuction with the 10,000 Maniacs, Mary Ramsey, John Lombardo, the late great DoDO Green and AL Tinney, Joann Lorenzo. When I was a teacher at City Honors school, I formed the City Honors Gospel choir, which won high acclaim throughout the area as well, and became a group in high demand. presently, i am the director of the former FAAB choir, (Foundation of Arts and Athletes in Buffalo), now known as the Buffalo Select Chorus, which involves high school students from the entire city. We were sponsored by Ani DiFranco, and gave our first concert in May at Asbury Hall in "the Church", here in Buffalo. Our first live recording came from this concert, which turned out to be a wonderful success. We are currently in our 3year of operation, and look forward to our 3rd live recording and concert in June.
through the years, I have been actively involved with numerous Curriculum writing committees, from Music education, to infusing African American culture and history in various syllabi, and infusing literacy into musical curriculum as well.
For the past 22 years, I was the minister of music for St. Mary of Sorrows Parish in Buffalo. Throughout this ministry, my choir has reached out and performed with the sister parish, St. Mary's of the Lake in Hamburg, uniting individuals of the inner city with a congregation in the suburubs to better foster a feeling of appreciation for people of all cultures, and has also been involved with prison ministry, at The Alden Detention Facility.

Since you went away My love lies bleeding Your loss cuts through me Like a wounded warrior caught In a war that nobody needed Nobody wanted and where nothing was achieved.
I believed your love would last forever My hope danced in the wind like a pure white feather I never waivered or faltered and stayed resolute A prayer at the alter was left for you A song from my heart was sang for you A flower from my garden I now give to you I will try to start again Through my pain and anguish Hope springs eternal for those apart Heal me like nature Who knows what it takes To bloom, to mend, a bleeding heart.
