As a nonperforming songwriter, Linda hires outside artists to perform her demos. Currently Buzz Smith (Houston, TX) does the arranging, Tillie Donaldson Sager (Fife, WA) performs the vocals, and Eric Janko (Seattle, WA) does all the engineering in his studio. In the past she has contracted such stellar professionals as Jay Kenny (Audio Logic) to do the mixing, Scott Anderson (57th Street Productions) to do arranging and mixing; Tom Kellock and Paul Richardson to do piano accompaniments; and Pat Wright (Total Experience Gospel Choir), Libby Torrance (formerly of Columbia Records), Tonya Ferris, Denise Ragnone, Elisa Lloyd Price, and Naomi Loving to perform the vocals. Linda feels incredibly blessed and honored to have such talented artists on her team!
Influences
In terms of musical influences, Barbra Streisand had the greatest impact on Linda's songwriting, as Linda fell in love with her style of performance and flair for the dramatic. Linda's material consistently stays within the classic/traditional pop genre reminiscent of the the artists mentioned in the section of "sounds like." With respect to the story lines of her music, Linda draws her inspiration from her own personal experiences. For example, after seeing the movie "Antwone Fisher" (based on the real life of Antwone Fisher), Linda was so deeply touched that she wrote the song "Who Will Cry For the Child." Only recently was she able to locate Antwone and share her song with him. She wrote "Till I Had Children of My Own" for her parents for their 60th wedding anniversary - it was her way of telling them she didn't truly understand her own parents until she had children of her own. Linda wrote "Shine On" in tribute to a very dear friend who was dying of cancer, as she wanted her friend to know how deeply she had touched Linda's life. Linda wrote "Fear Got In The Way" during a transitional phase in her life when she realized how often fear stopped her from going after what she wanted in life. She wrote "It's Up to You" after the horrors of 9/11, needing an outlet to her pent-up frustrations and dismay at man's own inhumanity to man.
Sounds Like
When people hear Linda's music, they usually think of Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, Celine Dion and Josh Groban.
Linda began her music career at the age of 4, when Betty Stoddard (renown pianist in the San Francisco area) discovered her playing the piano by ear and offered to give her formal lessons for free. After teaching Linda classical piano for several years, Ms. Stoddard took her to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for an audition, where they deemed Linda a child prodigy and offered her an opportunity to go on tour. Linda's parents, however, believing such a life was not healthy for such a young child, declined the invitation. Linda continued her private training in piano but also took up other instruments that attracted her interest. She learned to play the organ, accordion, trumpet, clarinet, flute, guitar, drums and countless other instruments along the way. She joined numerous orchestras and bands during her youth, and performed in piano lounges while in college. At the age of 19, Linda wrote her first musical composition to commemorate her sister's wedding, and in the process discovered that songwriting was her true passion. She has been writing songs ever since. Linda's song "Till I Had Children of My Own" was signed by Songcastle Music (ASCAP), and the sheet music can be downloaded on MusicNotes.com.
