'When all the trends fade and become dated, and all the music from the cutting edge becomes dull, Linda McRae will continue to stand tall, singing and playing music with honest soul and humility, cutting through the fog with timeless clarity. Linda is one of the true, soulful pioneers of honest roots music. Her singing and playing brings honor to her heroes and to her friends and fans." - Colin Linden
Linda is a Canadian Recording Artist and multi-instrumentalist who, during her tenure as bassist/accordionist with former Canadian Celtic/Roots group Spirit of the West, earned a Juno nomination and 2 Platinum and 3 Gold recordings. Linda left the band in 1997 to resume her solo career and has since released three critically acclaimed Folk/Roots recordings. Flying Jenny produced by Colin Linden (Bruce Cockburn, Emmy Lou Harrris), Cryin’ Out Loud produced by Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams, Mary Gauthier) and Linda's current release Carve It To The Heart produced by Linda and Marc L’Esperance (Po’Girl, Be Good Tanyas) all have received the highest praise from reviewers nationally as well as internationally.
Linda studied songwriting with Grammy winning songwriter Jon Vezner and clawhammer banjo aficionado Brad Leftwich with the help of a Canada Council Study Grant. She also studied blues finger style guitar with Juno winner Ken Hamm.
Linda's busy tour schedule reflects her love for performing having completed 200 shows last year alone. She is a compelling entertainer and her personality and storytelling add an intimacy to her shows regardless of the size of venue. Her evocative and powerful voice is well supported with the addition of her acoustic finger-style and flat picked rhythm guitar, clawhammer banjo, and Porchboard bass.
In addition to her busy touring schedule, Linda writes a monthly column for BC Musician Magazine entitled "This Winding Road" and is currently working on her next recording.

Hi Linda, a warm welcome to you..i hope we treated you well on your visit to Scotland! It has turned real cold here over the last few days, on with the 'thermals..lol
Thanks for the friendship.. Hope you enjoy the music and message behind it. My mission in life is to fight Human Trafficking. understanding the individual pain of others is sometimes to painful for an other individual to touch and that is frightening ...what i mean is that someone whose life is not traumatized and brutalized as a regular sequence of every day events unconsciously seeks the camouflage and shelter of apathy and banality from the reality of such devastating anguish and terror ...but the spirit of young people who are used as sex slaves in the systematized global industry of human trafficking is now reaching out to the human fellowship in hope and desperation and through technology ...it is scary when humanity turns a blind eye to this horror ...its like ignoring genocide whilst it is happening ...what i am asking is that if you hear the cry of these young people who are existing in an environment of torture and brutality each and every day that you then please do not turn away from them ...please reach deeply into your heart and soul and please in 2009 join a movement or become a part of an event that challenges modern slavery in the 21st century ...
