ROOTS ACOUSTIC MUSIC
"In my book, Lindsay Tomasic is among the best singer/songwriters in the world. Her songs are sweet and poignant, her voice is mesmerizing and her acoustic guitar style is expressive and beautiful. I have recorded some of the best in the business and Lindsay is their equal."
Harry Maslin - (producer & engineer for Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Carly Simon, David Bowie and more)
“The thing I have always recognized in Lindsay’s work is her unmistakable love of music – all kinds of music. It’s the golden thread running throughout everything she touches as a songwriter, performer and producer. Her work is always musical, full of heart and soul - spiritual, thoughtful, and consistent. She’s uber-talented, the ultimate professional, always true to her craft.”
Brendan O’Krent – ASCAP Los Angeles Office
The cover of Lindsay Tomasic’s sixth CD, The Most Amazing Dream, depicts the singer/songwriter silhouetted against a blaze of Northern lights. It’s an apt metaphor: a long time Los Angeles inhabitant who never seems far from her roots in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Written and recorded within a 10-month period, Tomasic’s newest release casts an aura of immediacy over a collection of 12 songs. Working with co-producer/master percussionist Quinn, the cast of players includes Greg Leisz (k.d. lang, Joni Mitchell, Robert Plant and Alison Krause) and Joshua Grange (Dwight Yokum, Adam Cohen) both of whom add gossamer layers of pedal and lap steels. Upright bass from Sebastian Steinberg (Neil and Tim Finn, Dixie Chicks) and horns from Probyn Gregory (Brian Wilson) decorate the scene with subtle flourishes, evocative touches and masterful restraint.
The album’s title track came to her one blazing San Fernando Valley day when she imagined the frosted woodlands of her birthplace. It’s one of many vivid hues: from the pastels of “Spring in Giverny” and the colorful delights in Monet’s garden, to the emotional devastation of watching a friend drift away in “Lost in Blue.” Tomasic also turns to topical themes; the downsized economy of “Now What,” the diminishing water supply of “Not a Drop to Drink,” and the forces that conspire to deny freedom in “Cry” (Repeal Prop 8).
“They were written in quiet spaces away from the studio,” she says of her newest collection of songs. “Probably half were created on airplane flights, when I would wake up and the visuals would start coming. I would take out my notebook and by the time the plane was landing I’d be singing the chorus.” With a demanding touring schedule that takes her across the country to performances at listening rooms, festivals and house concerts from Seattle to San Diego, Ann Arbor to Altadena, Tomasic has plenty of time to write. In Los Angeles, Lindsay has performed at signature venues including The Troubadour, Genghis Cohen, Room 5 Lounge, Coffee Gallery Backstage and Largo plus ASCAP's notable showcase, "Quiet On The Set.” Other selected stages include The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Cayuga Vault in Santa Cruz, California supplemented by radio guest spots on KPIG's Please Stand By, as well as KCBX's Pickin' Up The Tempo and The Minstrel Show.
Having opened shows for other artists including Janis Ian, Kenny Rankin and Jesse Colin Young, Lindsay also sang backup for Liz Phair on The Tonight Show and toured as a guitarist and backing vocalist for Lauren Wood. As a songwriter and composer, she created the theme song The Roseanne Show, and performed live on Soap Talk after the success of her songs as featured on One Life to Live. She has also contributed music for network and cable dramas, comedies and reality shows including Desperate Housewives, The L Word, Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, Malcolm In The Middle and the feature film Wild Hogs. An accomplished producer and engineer, she is the owner of Datolite Recording, a full media production facility.
While these credits are impressive, it has been Tomasic’s continued evolution as a singer/songwriter across a successive span of releases that best chronicles her artistry. Now, this story unfolds with provocative narratives, insightful lyrics and lustrous melodies that become The Most Amazing Dream.
“Inside the secret hallway of a poet’s mind
A gallery of dreams becoming clear
Crystallized in snowflake patterns all around
Awakening the music in my ears”
