Linebenders's Blurbs |
About me:
To begin... the primordial soup was beginning to turn... wait ..that's too far back. Let's see, ok, got it.
In 2001, Martin Jonason finally decided to act on a crazy idea that he had concocted years before... start an improv comedy troupe. Jonason auditioned local actors and non-actors and within a month had formed LineBenders. Jonason started the training of these rag tag comedians and began booking shows and performances.
In 2002, Jonason (wishing to explore other avenues) asked troupe member Bill Lucas if he would like to take over control of LineBenders. Lucas agreed and a new chapter in the troupe's tale was written. Lucas had been teaching drama for Fargo Public Schools and Trollwood Performing Arts School for over 15 years, so LineBenders was a natural step for him. He worked the troupe hard and over saw many of the troupe's greatest success. During his tenure, he led the troupe in over 150 public and private events, training at the world famous Second City in Chicago and even made a bunch of shirts, which (let's face it Bill) nobody bought. In 2004, troupe member J.J. Gordon signed LineBenders up to compete in the 48 Hour Film Project in Minneapolis, MN. To their surprise, their film, "Third Times a Charm .." won a place in the top 10 films in the city and even took home a Best Acting award. In 2006, the LineBenders competed again, this time in Fargo, ND and were again placed in the top 10 in the city. The LineBenders film "Milk Babies" .. went on to win Best Screenplay, Best Acting Ensemble and Best Picture. Thusly, LineBenders Films was born.
In 2006, Lucas decided to transfer the headache of directing LineBenders to J.J., who had been emceeing shows for three years. Since Gordon has taken over, the LineBenders have begun diversifying in the types of performance they do. The troupe's performing talent no longer ends with brilliantly performed improvisational comedy, but includes stand-up, sketch comedy and short films. Recently, they began a partnership with the historic Fargo Theater to perform once a month during the Midnight Movie Series. The LineBenders dub over and provide a running commentary on EXTREMELY cheesy old movies.
Currently, the LineBenders are finishing a successful season long run of performances at the Main Avenue Theater in downtown Fargo. They are seeking space to open their own comedy club and plan on expanding their territory for touring from regional to national.
What does the future hold for LineBenders? That, my friends, depends on how much the world can handle.
