Link Correon's Interests
|
| General | Computer programming, logic puzzles (Sudoku, Gemsweeper, magic square, word puzzles, etc.) and of course Video Games like The Legend of Zelda series, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Civilization / Alpha Centauri, The Sims 2, Black and White, Harvest Moon, Dragon Warrior / Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Tales of Symphonia, And a few that don't exist anymore like Lexi-Cross and Acrophobia. | | Music | My music is strange, but not strange enough to be called strange. I like Christian artists like Andrew Peterson, Rich Mullins, and Chris Rice. I like folk artists like John Denver. I like rock artists like Bonnie Tyler, Meatloaf. I like comedy artists like Crash Test Dummies, Weird Al Yankovic and They Might Be Giants. I like musicals like Les Miserables and Evita. I like the Lion King and its sequel album Rhythm of the Pridelands. I like the songs "You're the Reason God Make Oklahoma", "It's not easy (Superman)", "My Immortal", "In Defense of the wicked queen", and "When Doves Cry" (Romeo + Juliet Soundtrack). I like the theme from "Smallville", the theme from "The Price is Right", and the theme from "The Greatest American Hero" (Believe It or Not). | | Movies | Serenity, Groundhog Day, Charlotte's Web, Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within, Phenomenon, Love Actually, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Willow, Deja Vu, | | Television | Current:
Stargate Atlantis, CSI, Smallville, Boondocks, Numb3rs, Criminal Minds,
Gone, perhaps too soon:
Firefly, Stargate SG1, Reboot!, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Barker's Price is Right
Gone forever:
Press Your Luck, Sale of the Century, Dungeons and Dragons (1983 animated), Spellbinder (Australia), Star Trek | | Books | I am ashamed to say I've read the "Sword of Truth" series by Terry Goodkind. It's a *dangerous* philosophy made novel series. The writing is great, the magic is great, the romance is pretty good, but it's all based on reason being the greatest power and your own life being the greatest value. Reason is a necessary corrective for the lack of intellectual integrity in our time, but it is *not* the final word on any matter which is spiritual. Reason cannot solve the greatest mysteries of life, and your own life has little value if you have to kill hundreds of lives to protect it. I'm haunted by how alluring it is to give away all belief in exchange for the perfect order that cold rationality can bring. We need reason, especially in an age where faith is so blind, but reason is not *all* we need. | | Heroes | My heroes love God, love other people, love learning, love perfection, and love goodness.
Real people:
Jesus, My wife, Shigeru Miyamoto, Joss Whedon
Fictional Characters:
Superman, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Dr. Gil Grissom, AndrAIa |

About me:
The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.
--Albert Einstein
I over-think everything. I love to listen, to debate, to theorize, to play games, to be entertained, and to talk about philosophy, spiritualism, religion, politics, the Great Pumpkin (none of which you're allowed to talk about in public), environmental issues, social justice, the media, and of course television and video games. Feel free to drop me a line if you want to over-think something!
I loved video games for years and years but somehow lost the free time it takes to play them. (That *might* have something to do with games going from three minutes [Pac-Man] to games going well over 100 hours minimum [Final Fantasy].) I try to take a couple of Saturday's a month and really immerse myself in something big like Civilization IV, but these days I'm lucky to get in a game of Tennis on the Wii or a game of Mr. Do! from years gone by.
I love computers. I start to twitch whenever I'm not near one (or so I say to my coworkers to freak them out). I have six computers in my home currently. (Yes, I typically preach about overconsumption when I hear about people with more than 3 TV's, but computers are my business and I love them.) I make my coworkers happy by giving them just what they need on the company web site. It's what I love.
I am a dreamer. I dream up fantasy worlds. My wife and I write text role play together and come up with sci fi and fantasy worlds. Seems like all the great Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows are gone now. At least we can make our own. I wonder what my favorite characters are up to when the TV show/movie is over.

Who I'd like to meet:
I enjoy meeting anyone who enjoys conversing about ideas. I know people who want to talk about other people, which is not that much fun. I know people who want to talk about events, which is fine in the moment. Hopefully when you talk about people or events, you move on to the underlaying ideas. Make every conversation a plot for a novel. Make every thought a part of a paradigm for living. Learn something about yourself and your relationship to the world around you.
