ABOUT THE RIDE:
WITH MY EYE LINER and the corner of an airline magazine I frantically wrote down the words to a song I had in my head as I flew back to Charleston, SC from my home in New Hampshire. I had flown home to be with my sister when my parents told her they were getting divorced. I have performed this song, "Daddy", many times since then and through response I have been given the gift of knowing I am not alone.
Marriage, kids, and moves caused my mom to lose contact with her dearest friend. When they reunited they were surprised to hear that they were both going through a divorce. They both had very similar experiences and found comfort and support in each other.
I watched these two very strong women come back together in an understanding of a similar pain and I smile as I watch them laugh and cry one another through the "why's?"
As I ride across the country I plan to gather stories of families because I believe our families and our stories are what bring us all together. All of us have a family and all of us have a story to tell.
"People make mistakes, Fathers, Mothers, people make mistakes holding to their own, thinking they're alone, but no one is alone.
Sometimes people leave you halfway through the wood. Others may deceive you. You decide what's good. You decide alone. But no one is alone.
Hard to see the light now, just don't let it go. Things will come out right now; we can make it so. Someone is on your side. No one is alone." -Stephen Sondheim.
My sister, Caiti, will be with me on her bicycle, talking to communities about water scarcity, water commodification, and the need to protect water as a human right and a precious natural resource. She will be screening the film "Flow: For Love of Water" in various towns across the country and encouraging the people she encounters to redefine our perception of water as a common good that should be respected, conserved, and protected from corporate exploitation. For more information, please visit FoodandWaterWatch.org, TakeBacktheTap.org, and check out the film "A World Without Water" for free online.

Sounds like a great ride. My riding buddy and I are looking at a group ride from Mexico to Canada sometime in the next two years... Looked over your site. I'm also a musician. I use to custom make all my own guitar straps too!

Awesome, those straps are really cool. I'll think about it. Sorry I missed your show on the 8th, my friend Laura Lee played with you and said you were awesome. I'll be in CA from mid-September through November if you want to do a show in Arcata or anywhere in that area. Talk to me.
