Linoleum Records was formed by Shemrok Christ and Driftski in 1994 in the basement of Driftski's mom's house in Brockton, Mass. during early 4-track recording sessions for legendary underground acid rap crew Cooler Than Smack. Fourteen years later, and Linoleum is still alive and kicking. The first acts to work in the basement studio were Deadly Alliance and Acid Bath, a group featuring Shemrok Christ and Driftski that would later become Cooler Than Smack. DA recorded more than 20 gangsta rap tracks, including the street anthem "Niggaz Don't Know," but the songs have never been commercially released and remain in the Linoleum vaults. Acid Bath too recorded more than a dozen tracks that have never been released. Linoleum's first commercial release was "Disco Dust Delight," a six-song EP that Cooler Than Smack recorded on a Tascam 4-track. The extremely hard-to-find EP was pressed up only on cassette and vinyl and included the underground classics "Toxic Sludge," "Real," "Stix & Stones" and an early version of "Disco Static." The album was recorded with an rolansd S-10 keyboard sampler, a Boss Dr. Rythym drum machine, a Fender Rhodes electric piano and guitar by DJ Deep. The label's next release was "Suppertime," an 8-song album from DJ Deep's blues/jazz rock group Borderland that was released on cassette only. Next up was 1998's "The Diabolical Dope Act," the much-anticipated full-length from Cooler Than Smack. Fueled by Shemrok Christ's deterioration from drug use, inner turmoil and tragedy surrounding the crew, the disc was an instant classic that struck a chord with legions of fans across the northeast. The disc featured several classic tracks, including "Elephants," "Stay Close," a remix of "Disco Static," "Stone Cold Lava Lampin'," and the chilling "Cocaine Nosejob." Also performing on the disc were bassist Mike G, DJ Joe Mamma, rapper Ryan A and guitarist Craig T. Gritty and appealing equally to ravers, hip-hop heads and hardcore kids, the album was a local hit, soaring to number one on the charts at Boston-area retailer Newbury Comics and garnering play on several college radio stations as well as Boston's WBCN and WFNX. By this time, CTS was ripping up stages all over the northeast from New York to Burlington, Vt., but was slowly imploding due to drug problems and in-fighting. Unfortunately for fans, Driftski and Shemrok Christ split in 1999. Around this same period, Driftski, rapper/guitarist THC and musician Sweet Pete recorded several comedy rap tracks under the name Uncle Dad, including the classic "Larry Hagman." Linoleum is in the process of re-mastering the tracks for their first commercial release. Shemrok moved to California where he continued to record and play shows with a new version of CTS that featured , Acidrop, Sacrifice (R.I.P.), Bobby Nugget(R.I.P.) and others who make up the Drugratz. Back in Brockton, Linoleum continued on, releasing "Anotha Level" in 2001 by Flip22, a rapcore band from Taunton, Mass. that featured ex-members of Eastcide and Headcheck. With J-Maze on vocals and Linoleum in-house producer/engineer Shane V on bass, the disc was a local smash, thanks to infectious tracks like "Images," "Rapido," and the soaring "Spell." Driftski and Joe Mamma, meanwhile, recorded several never-released tracks as Spacepigz and performed live shows at raves, parties and clubs around the Boston area. Other commercial releases from Linoleum include discs by horrrorcore act Dooz and rock band Savin Grey. The label was quiet for much of the early 2000s until Driftski joined forces with Flip22/Headcheck MC J-Maze to form Natural Chaos. DJ Joe Mamma rounded out the crew and in July 2005, they released "Supanaturalz," a 10-track attack that mixed elements of old skool hip-hop, reggae, rock, electro and house. NC played shows around the Boston area with national acts like Shootyz Groove, Granola Funk Express, Approach and Elemental Zazen while tracks from "Supanaturalz" popped up on XM Satellite and college radio. Shemrok Christ and Driftski recently rejoined forces to lay down three new tracks slated to be included in a forthcoming Cooler Than Smack release. While Shemrok Christ continues to creep around LA, hanging out with the likes of Danny Bonaduce,And forming a new hiphop crew of demented souls BRING ON DEATH ,Driftski continues to write and DJ, spinning clubs and parties around Boston. Driftski's new mix CD is in final production and will be available on this site soon. He's also working on an indie electronic project tentatively titled Molotov Temple. BRING ON DEATH has released several l.p.s including "REVENGE OF THE TOXIC DEAD" "BUGZ" , and "THE GHOST OF BRITTANY MURPHY" meanwhile Cooler Than Smack reformed with Shemrok Christ at the helm with new band mates Acidrop,Ottomic Blue,Jester X,Admoney,Headcase, and Sage releasing a new lp "DRUGRAT FIELDTRIP " in 09 on DRC RECORDS/Linoleum Records and are currently in the studio working on their new l.p. I've got a new track online, addressing a few people who like to run their mouths. If you've got time, give it a listen, leave some feedback, you know the deal.
