Since receiving my Bachelor of Music degree from Carleton University in 2001, where I specialized in performance under Rob Frayne, I have been busy working in a variety of forms and bands from the experimental space sounds of Rakestar Arkestra to the Punjabi fusion of Galitcha, and from the Calypso derived Kobo Town to the world music tinged rhythm and blues of Ellen McIlwaine. I've been lucky to have played and recorded with such musicians as Rob Frayne, Yves Lambert, Hassan El Hadi, John Geggie and Petr Cancura, and to have played in such venues as the Ottawa Folk, Jazz and Blues Fesivals, the Guelph Jazz Festival, The Lincoln Centre Out of Doors Festival in New York City, Théatre Mohammed V in Rabat, Morrocco, The Centre Culturel Bir Lahjar in Tunis, Tunisia and Festival au Desert in Essakane, Mali.
In the fall of 2007 I released a disc with drummer Mike Essoudry exploring an intersection of free improvisation and world musics on the Montréal record label Malasartes, for which I received a grant from the City of Ottawa. I am currently working on a project for solo alto saxophone that I hope to record towards the end of 2009, for which I have received funding from the Ottawa Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. I also play saxophones, flutes and bass clarinet in the Worlds Collide project which combines gamelan ensemble Semara Winangun, Ghanaian drum and Dance troupe Akpokli and Sun Ra tribute band Rakestar Arkestra.
