Bio
Lindsey Webster Lindsey Webster is a singer/songwriter/cellist from Woodstock, NY. Ever since she was a little girl, Lindsey has had music in her soul. In the 3rd grade, she took up the cello and joined the elementary orchestra where she flourished in an ensemble of especially talented students, the "First Fifteen", directed by Ms. Katherine Jeannotte. She performed with regional Hudson Valley orchestras, competed as a New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) soloist, toured the New England states as cellist with the Flying Fiddlers String Chorale, and played with acclaimed musicians such as GRAMMY and Emmy award-winner, Jay Ungar. Though mainly focused on playing her cello, Lindsey’s very strong passion for singing was unveiled when she won her eighth grade talent show. Her powerful vocal rendition of "Reflection" by Christina Aguilera started a great buzz at her school and launched her as a singer in local competitions. At Capital Region Idol in Albany, NY, the Grammy-winning producer and American Idol judge Randy Jackson was among the judges, and Lindsey won the competition. In 2006, when Lindsey was only 16 years old, she fearlessly auditioned for Sterling Stokes, a record producer who worked with many local artists. She sang "Dreamlover" by Mariah Carey, and Sterling knew she had it from the first phrase. Within just two weeks, he had set up a meeting between Lindsey and two talented NYC musicians, Samuel Montgomery and Aaron Harris of TASS. At her first session in a NYC studio, Lindsey recorded a three-song demo featuring "Rise Above," "Love Don't Leave Me Now," and "I'm Ready.” When asked about her first studio experience, Lindsey chuckled and gave a recollection of her experience- “It was really amazing to set foot in a real recording studio for my first time. I had been in your typical “living room” recording set-up, with a regular stage mic and whatever Pro-Tools set-up was available- but to be in a booth with a window and a mic that looked like a spaceship; it was exhilarating! I just wanted to move in!”. Over the next two years, Lindsey had more opportunities to hone her studio chops with established musical producers. She recorded one of her signature tunes, “Same Way,” at Soldier Studios working with Darryl Jenifer, bassist for the Washington D.C.-based hardcore punk and reggae band, Bad Brains. “Darryl showed me how to be more precise when singing my harmonies. I remember one night when we were working on “Same Way”, he slowed down the track to a tenth of a second and played it in slow motion. He said, “See, you hear how that is a little flat?” I then proceeded to correct that note. He was a tough mentor! Musically, He also introduced me to strong women artists, such as Minnie Riperton and Anita Baker. Listening to them and their music, which is now a big part of my repertoire, was a huge turning point for me.” But, once again facing budget constraints, Lindsey’s dream of making a record would again be delayed. Then, in 2008, Lindsey’s long time friend and up-and-coming music producer, Doc-Slash, invited her into the studio to start recording her very own EP. This time, Lindsey was determined to finish a set of tunes and went into the studio with a vengeance. With Doc as her present day producer, she has already recorded pop hits such as "They Love Me," "Discomatic," "Tell Me," and the love lullaby "Summer Play," and continues to lay down additional tracks. When she’s not in the studio or writing songs, Lindsey sings and tours with Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra. Sturr, who has won 18 Grammy awards and received more consecutive Grammy nominations than anyone in music, often features Lindsey on his weekly RFD-TV shows on Direct TV, FiOS and the Dish Network. Lindsey now fronts her own funk/R&B fusion band, "The Lindsey Webster Band,” featuring Grammy award winning engineer, pianist and keyboard player, Keith Slattery. “Keith plays such an important role in my continuing musical journey,” says Lindsey. “Working with him and my band has definitely given me an appreciation for jazz, R&B and so much other great music. Plus, there’s nothing like the thrill of singing before a live audience and getting people up on the dance floor!” Together, Keith and Lindsey are performing in music venues throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond. Listen to a few of Lindsey’s demos on her MySpace page (recorded at Bennett Studios, NJ, except “Same Way”, which was recorded at Soldier Stuidos) to get a taste of her deep musical passion and her powerful vocal dynamics.
