Usually Lionel and the few that will put up with his stupidity, usually an ever changing line-up, most don't last 6 months.
Influences
Bad memories and mis-interperated thoughts.

It's Not My Fault, plus the Live album, has to be some of the best music received to date. It's sheer dynamism and its mix of roots/country/rock is undertaken in such a professional manner as to make one wonder where the hell Lionel has been all these years. With elements of Springsteen and the writing equivalence of the likes of Dylan, It's Not My Fault deserves world wide attention. Not only is this a good album, it is also an album that MUST be heard.

Lionel's "It's
Not My Fault" CD is a gem. It is outstanding in every aspect:
Songwriting, musicianship, and production, with quality that matches
any big-label CD you've heard. Songs like "Storms Building"
take you on an emotional ride from mellow verses to the powerful
organ-filled chorus. "Day by Day" will get you tapping
your toes to the hook-filled chorus. Our favorite is "One More
Time," with its catchy, Springsteen-like groove and all the
qualities of an adult rock hit.
If you enjoy adult rock singer songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen,
Warren Zevon, or John Hiatt, you'll love this CD. Pick up a copy

"It's Not
My Fault has stayed inside my CD player since the first moment I
put it in, and I still haven't stopped listening to it since then!
I love everything you've done there, there is no weak point indeed:
the voice is warm, the sound of the Hammond is delightful but all
the band plays very well and tight. But above all I love your songs,
a stunning blend of country, rock, rhythm'n'blues and something
else too. I seldom am so enthusiast because I have to listen to
so much music, as you may understand, but be sure that this album
will be a consistent part of my musical diet in the next days and
I'll play it a lot in my radio show here.
I thank you
again so much for letting me discover your fantastic music."

"Excellent songwriting, and a tight roots rock feel accompany the
new CD from Lionel Train featuring Rens Newland. My favorite tunes
are the rollicking "Day By Day", the soulful heartfelt "Our Paths
Have Crossed", the light hearted "Bad Day", and the bluesy "Over
Into Life". The Lionel Train is Lionel Lodge on vocals and acoustic
guitar and features some excellent keyboard and organ work from
Valentin Oman. `It's Not MY Fault´ is a great collection of ballads,
blues, and good time rock and roll. Buy it!"

"Definitely Schragged" by singer/songwriter Lionel Lodge is an acoustic CD that stands in a class by itself. A masterpiece is made when the right conditions, the right musicians, and the right music converge. In this case the right place is the infamous "Cafe Schrag" in Vienna; The performers are musicians who enjoyed making music at the Schrag; And the music is Lionel's unique brand of acoustic folk eclecticism. The result is music that is real, authentic, and organic. The listener is invited to join the ambiance at the Schrag! The performances are all memorable and unique with contributions from a tuba, a violin, accordions, harmonicas, and various percussion instruments. This is real talent that does not need to be disguised! Our favorite track is "The Greatest Thrill of All," which features an exquisite guitar/accordion accompaniment. This CD captures the essence of friends creating music together and invites the listener to become a part of the experience. This CD is a classic for your collection!
"Definitely Schrägged"
was born out of weekly sessions held at the infamous Cafe
Schräg in Vienna. The cafe is run by Reinhard, a definitely
schrägged but extremely lovable rouge. His enthusiasm and love
for the music fuelled the continuation of the weekly ramblings.
The sessions started with just Gernot Feldner and Lionel wanting
to have a place to get together and bang through some songs, simply
for the fun of it. Café Schräg had a piano, one that
was pulled from a garbage pile but hey ...
After a few weeks of sessions with Gernot and Lionel schrägging
about on their own, they started inviting other players to join
in. All was done with casual attire, sitting around the piano, like
cattle in the shade, mainly ignoring any audience that would gather,
just playing though stuff they felt like playing through at the
time. Some players came once and never again (usually due to an
indiscretion on Lionel's part), some came once and kept coming
back to get a little more schrägged out. Over the weeks the
group slowly gathered, kinda like dust under the bed. By the end
of the first six months of sessions they had accumulated the players
that are on "Definitely Schrägged", like minded,
schrägged folks who enjoyed the distraction of ambling through
the songs.
In December
2006 they spent one day in the studio and recorded the main part
of the band. Markus, the tuba player, couldn't be there as
he was sick (hard to play a tuba with a head cold) so it was the
remaining five left to stink it out that day. In the following weeks
they added the tuba and some extra guest players who were not part
of the core session group but who had joined in at the sessions
when they could and who definitely churned the engine of the music.
The sessions
came to a floundering end when some music critic of a neighbour
to Cafe Schräg started calling the police and complaining
they were too loud (them? never!). They tired to be quieter but
the piano didn't have a volume knob on it (most acoustic pianos
don't) so they could only wallow so low (without getting morally
damaged). The Cafe was fined a couple times, they tried playing
without the tuba and without the cajon but the police still came.
So they, sadly, had to end the sessions. All satisfying escapes
must come to an end they say.
"The weekly sessions
at Schräg will be missed
but at least we have this CD to remind us of what was."

FRIENDS is a beautiful song an performance. It soothes my ears as does most of that magic on your last album.. kinda got a cosy bar feel . a bar i wouldnt wanna leave ..even if they were just serving iced t lol ..the backing vocals add to the song .which is one of my favourites of yours , glad you had it up here a while. an the covers,,i guess covers are in the air at the moment lol.. i think the version of I JUST SEEN A FACE is better than the beatles version . definetley a more rugged an knowing vocal than that of a young paul .. which i like .. Paul is odd one of the beatles cos i loved alot of what he did with the beatles ... yet solo .. i feel he did so alot of stuff i can only describe as shit in my opinion lol .. can't get enough of SHE CAME THROUGH THE BATHROOM WINDOW an HONEY PIE lol .. when i was recording the covers medley ..at the start i was recording basic ideas of covers i was gonna do .. but i was doing em all completely different . music. melody .. often alot of the lyrics aswell .. i then decided whats the point an thought ill keep some of these new melodys for some of my next songs .. an i stuck to closer to the orignals in the edit .. although not that close ..cos i was just jamming an didnt know how to play the orignals an didnt have a cd of em too hand to try an copy ... i did a very basic version of HOLD ON with a different melody ..vocally i werent going for it .either ..cos i was just recording it to remember it ... i put it up on my player for you to check out if your interested i kinda goofed around an used a few of your song titles in the lyrics ..so its kinda a tribute track .. heres what i wrote .
HOLD ON
devils winds been blowing no sign of relief comming through its a DANGEROUS GAME that your playing letting SOME OTHER WANNABE talk to you
hey up lionel .. i gotta let you know .. i did a portion of your beautiful song HOLD ON in JUST ANOTHER COVERS BAND (COVERS MEDLEY) ... If you got a problem with it .. let me know an i'll take it off soon as .. lee

I'm hitting the road in a couple of weeks to raise money for War Child, Coast-to-coast – 50 cities – ALL PROCEEDS TO WARCHILD. Why? 66% of all war victims are CHILDREN. Shocked like me? War Child helps these children that have been affected by war. Check out the new blog – the whole story is up there. Love to have you be a part of it.
You’ll find a Blog, Tour page and a Bio page. I’ll be blogging daily from the road.
Yea London would be far that day. Oh well - more Norfolk dates, I presume? Should sing in Waterford!
Btw - you status is the best I've read about him tonight. So poignant and true.
