Keri Fletcher-Eason, Rex Beard, Paul DeLano, and Mark Drury of Lip Service bring some exceptional talent to the area that is not to be missed. Their cover performances are always enjoyable and enthusiastic but it is their original music that really sets them apart.
Lip Service. Music that takes on personal and global relationships, love & politics, with honesty, grit and strength.
Influenced by home grown American music. Rock & roll, funk and blues. The lean sound of Lip Service, unfiltered by any corporate concern, immediately strikes a chord with people. Connecting through strong lyrics and the pulse of their music. With a passionate group writing process at a new level of collaboration on their CD "Love & Politics". Blending rock, blues and funk while keeping an ear on the world inspires their singular music. It's no wonder Portland is America's new indie rock Mecca!
Performing live is definitely a highlight for Lip Service. Bars or Bookstores, Colleges or Charities, Fairs, Theme Parks or intimate House Parties are all a great way for us to meet and mix with everyone involved.
The core of the band has been together since the late '90s when Paul DeLano (Extended-range Bassist) joined Rex Beard (Guitarist) on stage and in the studio during the making of "Yesterdaze Child", the project of a singer/songwriter hailing from Tennessee. The result was an eleven song CD that can still be found on-line. Working with Keri Fletcher-Eason (Vocals) during the same project they decided to come together as a group with a long term view. A little patience delivered Mark Drury (Drums) and that rare chemistry emerged. Mark welds the band tightly together as he joins forces with the colossal bass playing of Paul on his arsenal of custom signature series, yes his signature, eight-string basses. Rex's guitar winds and grooves between rhythm and lead adding fuel to the fiery mix, as Keri's soulful and adept voice weaves it all together.

Obsessed with music from a young age, Lip Service lead vocalist and front-woman Keri Fletcher-Eason dreamed of being a vocalist ever since her first grade school solo. However, it wasnt until 1996 at her first local karaoke performance, when spectators made her realize she was good at this singing thing, that she finally really decided that she absolutely needed to perform professionally...it was no longer a choice, but a driving force.
In 2000 it happened! Keri was working with Paul DeLano and Rex Beard on the Yesterdaze Child project. She was ecstatic to have the opportunity to perform with them when that project wrapped, as they worked well together. Thus, Lip Service was born. Lip Service's original songs, recorded at Izabella's Canvas Recording are available online at CDBaby. Rock being in her blood, Keri is thrilled to be performing, recording and writing material with Lip Service and it shows in her performance.
Whether she is singing with a local Portland blues band T.C. Blues, belting out soulful Aretha Franklin, gripping and meaningful Journey, the rock stylings of Pat Benatar, or one of Lip Services own powerful original creations, Keris obsession with music is passionately expressed in her live performances and is not to be missed.
Early on Rex felt lucky to be around music and musicians. Grandparents, parents, a sister or brother were strumming, blowing through some horn, or in front of a keyboard. The stereo definitely got more use than the TV. Being lucky enough to listen to all that while absorbing the flavors, history and textures of different countries he attempts to distill it all down through his guitar.
Playing at Shakespeare in the Park or Renaissance Fairs, in modern original acts or cover bands, all have their own appeal and challenges. Rex hopes for the privilege to continue performing for many more years. Searching for the note or phrase that fits the music of the moment.
One of the Northwest's busiest bass players, Paul DeLano can be found on any given night either playing in one of many bands or recording in one of several world-class Northwest studios. Writing original music in his home project studio, or all three. Doing all this on 8-string signature series basses. Made for him by Bee Basses. (Right here in McMinnville Oregon.
Originally a Heavy Metal player in the 80s, he has been involved in some amazing bands and projects such as T.C. Blues, Guitar Julie & The Rumblers (Julie Uomini married Andy Strange of the Terraplanes and the couple is now performing with their band The Strangetones all over the Northwest), Mannheimer Park, a southern rock quartet, Twist of Fate, a progressive metal band, and many more! He has also had the opportunity to work with some very prominent Northwest musicians along the way such as Levon Levan
