The ‘all new’ Liquor & Poker or L & P (as it has affectionately become known by the faithful) has 1 original member, guitarist extraordinaire, Adrian Dunn. His objective was easy; to tribute an era of music which has been sadly neglected over the last decade or so, 80’s Rock!
The fan base for this genre has always been with us hence the popularity of the ‘Tribute’ market. Cover acts recreating the looks and sounds of bands such as Bon Jovi, Guns & Roses, AC/DC, Aerosmith etc. attract huge crowds up and down the country, which tells us that, despite current chart trends, ‘rock’ is still at the forefront of live music.
This is reinforced with the emergence of bands like Airbourne and The Answer and clearly shows that fun, party-style 80’s rock is still as valid today as it ever was; things are definitely on the up!
Adrian Dunn has been playing guitar pretty much since he was old enough to hold one and has been involved in numerous projects over the years. He began gigging in the late 80’s, as a teenager with 70’s Glamster’s The Sweet. He has also played in Mother’s Ruin, a ‘signed’ outfit featuring ex-members of popular 80’s band Heavy Pettin.
Adrian also teaches guitar and has around 40 student’s ‘under his wing’, in his native Milton Keynes, so if you want to learn to shred; AD is your man!
With Adrian deciding to resurrect L & P, the search was then on to find the key members in the local area; Drummer Mike Ivory was soon recruited, to provide a sound platform on which to build the band.
Next in was Kenzo (Wayne Kensett), to handle the vocal duties. A chance meeting at a gig in The Pitz, saw Adrian & Wayne discussing the ‘good old days’ when they played in the popular local band Crazzma. AD & Kenzo co-wrote most of the material and the plan is to do so again!
Bass player Paul Gunn, ex Marshall Band, joined the fold to complete the line-up for a short period of time, leaving the band early 2009.
Finally, the ace of bass, Stevey Gibbons (Abigail's Mercy bassist/frontman) stepped in, raised the bar and rocked the house, adding a new dimension to the band's live dynamics.
And so the band set off on their quest of developing an entire set of classic 80’s rock anthems, songs which are timeless, instantly recognisable and which people want to sing along to. L & P have put together nearly 2 hours of material drawn from the likes of Thunder, Iron Maiden, Guns & Roses, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Ozzy and Van Halen, amongst others, all played to an extremely high standard, to do this era the justice it deserves.
Our aim is simple; to re-live those classic songs and bring the party back into rock, so get along to one of the shows and get ready to join in & enjoy yourselves.
Go on, let your hair down…if you dare!!!
