Those that inspire, be it their music and/or what they stand for: Harriet Wheeler (Sundays), Lauryn Hill, the Beatles, Jeffrey Gaines, Wayne Coyne-our hometown hero, Etta James, Toni Price, Wilco, Fiona Apple (!), Jack White, Patty Griffin--genius, Loretta Lynn, Tori Amos, Sufjan Stevens--marry me?, David Gray, Aimee Mann, Alison Krauss, Jeff Buckley, Glenn Phillips, kd lang--amazing, Bonnie Raitt, Woody Guthrie, Greg Laswell, Natalie Merchant, Norah Jones, Elvis Costello, Pavement(!), John Legend, Frank Black (Pixies AND solo, baby), and Mr. Bob Dylan. And those are the inspirations that happen to be household names.
There's also my friends who find pure joy in creating music & it makes me smile. Where do I start? Gena, Sarah, Laura, Judson, Travis, Shannon, Jen, Rebecca, Steven, Jenn, Sunshine, Eric, Tim, Shy, Issei, Josh, Nathan, Jacob, Carter, Camille, Susan, Tanner...local music is not hurting here, no sir-ee. And art--Nicole also inspires. I love our town. So many great supporters as well! Music is a gift for everyone to enjoy. As the amazing conductor Eph Ely said, "Music is our communication with the angels."
Sounds Like
laughter with a dash of heartache caught in the throat....
a warm summer day when that rain smell is starting to drift in...
Lisa has brought a fresh sound to many wonderful nightspots in Oklahoma City since she helped a downtown bistro begin an outdoor patio back in 2003. At the time OKC was just on the cusp of an ever-expanding downtown, and Lisa had written just a handful of songs that she had rarely shared. Well, growth and change are good. To see the growth of OKC over the last 4 years is exciting. And Lisa grew in her own right, finding a little more confidence in what she had to share.
Over years of just travelin' and exploring the country, she's played a nice little list of venues: Momo’s & Agave on Sixth in Austin, Portland State University, Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles, Cosmic Pizza in Eugene, Californo's in Kansas City, Gramazio’s in Boulder, the Blue Pepper in Salem, Uncle Calvin's in Dallas, The Stage in Nashville, and Sqwire’s in St. Louis. She's had the pleasure of opening for Terri Hendrix & Lloyd Maines, Don Conoscenti, Ronny Elliot....shared the stage at WoodyFest with Terry Ware, Jimmy LaFave, The Burns Sisters, Michael Fracasso...yes, many good times.
In Spring 2007, Lisa released her second recording produced by local indie rocker Judson Layne. Most recently, she's been travelling around the US, performing a musical show she wrote for a popular children's festival--the live event for the PBS show "Thomas the Tank Engine." The creative process is most evident in these situations, as the children engage & join in the music.

Hey Lisa...not much new up here. Working often. Not playing enough music. You haven't been back to KC since the Californo's gig...it's time for an encore!
Brrrrr from Boston. Wind going right through my bones. Hard to believe, I know, being that I'm so buff and all... or... rather, being that I'm from Buffalo. But it's twue. It's all so very twue.
Bless your sweet BIG ol' heart Lisa! Not to worry, I've been PROmoting that gig for a couple of weeks, now! Has your friend found those lyrics? I can hear you singing some of Kris's songs in my head, & it's great! YES, SW is a neat place! I'll see ya there! Have some fun for yourself!
Funny thing is what I told you Saturday night made PERFECT sense in my head. I didn't even realize that I had completely reversed the attempted compliment!
Well, you did sound great even if you where under the weather. Wish we could have stayed longer. See you again soon hopefully.
