Lisa, singer/songwriter/performer, was born and raised in Rochester, New York, where her influence by music began at a very young age. I remember making home made music videos in my neighbors garage. We made C&C Music Factory videos, Madonna, Janet Jackson, it was so much fun! Thats one of my earliest musical memories, and I think that was what initially made my love for music so strong. As a child Lisa was influenced by the music that her parents played usually while we were doing weekend cleaning around the house, Music by greats such as the late Luther Vandross, Earth Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye, Anita Baker, and many more, was constantly playing and molding her musical tastes.
After years of singing in school choirs and vocal ensembles, Lisa attended Berklee College of Music, where she majored in music business. I think its extremely important to understand the business that youre going into. Everyone talks about how cutthroat the music industry is, so the more knowledge you have, and the more confidence in yourself and your craft, I think youll be better off in the long run, whether it be on the indie or major circuit. While at Berklee, Lisa had the opportunity to sing in recitals, recording sessions, solo performances, and with the Reverence Gospel Ensemble. That was the first time I ever sang gospel. I went to an Episcopalian church, so the only music that was performed was classical. As a soft sung vocalist, singing gospel music gave Lisa the strength and dynamic versatility she was looking to gain.
Lisa strives to create and perform music that touches the soul and uplifts the spirit, as well as music that deals with everyday emotions and experiences. Love is universal. I know Ill always be writing about love, but there are endless subjects that can be touched on. Music is a form of communication, and I dont want to communicate something that may influence the listener in a negative way. I know that I need more life experience before I can really dig deep and write more intense songs that dont touch on love. I really want to grow and improve as a person, and I want my music to grow and improve with me.
