About me:
Hi i'm Lisa, Lisa Holme. I am one of Sydney's many performing drag queens, well actually I was one of Sydney's performing drag queens. I don't really do drag all that often anymore.
I started doing drag a couple of years ago, firstly at a friends dress up drag party for a bit of fun. I somehow got caught up in the whole drag scene and before I knew it I was performing at various clubs and bars across Sydney, doing corporate gigs and even perfoming in a Sleazeball show, more on that later.
As most aspiring drag queens in Sydney I started out performing at Polly's Follies and volunteering at every charity event I could. I've supported and volunteered my time and talent to countless charity events including Hats Off, 2010, Acon, The Bake Off and Shop Yourself Stupid to name a few. All to get my name out there and to learn from other queens.
With a little help from a couple of close friends and my old website Drag Me Out (doesn't exist anymore) I scored my first paid gig. I hosted the Just Jeans Group Christmas Party. From there I went on to perform in a couple of popular and successful shows out at Penrith's Image Nightclub. There I performed alongside Charisma Belle and Moo Moo Belle in shows such as "Not Another Scary Drag Show" and "Greased Up". I continued to perform and volunteer my time throughout various venues around Sydney, clubs and bars including Parramatta's Pash, Stonewall Hotel, Home Nightclub, The Venus Room, The Midnight Shift, The Lizard Lounge and ARQ.
I was somehow convinced to enter the second season of ARQ's "The Winner Takes It All" hosted by Chelsea Bunn. Afterall I did help the winner of season one, so thought I might have a chance at winning too. The competition ran for weeks, first the heats, then down to the final twelve. Each week one of the final twelve got eliminated by a panel judges, leaving the remaining contestents to return the following week with a bigger and better performance and to battle it out again and again until there was only one winner. The competition was fierce. I enjoyed it though, as it pushed us all to be better each week and to be even more creative as the weeks went on. Anyway, I won the competition to no surprise of the audience as I was the clear favourite from the beginning :-)
Portia Turbo somehow managed to drag me into doing Drag Survivor 4 (excuse the pun) also at ARQ. Another drag competition. Unfortunately, I only lasted two weeks as the other queens worked together to have me eliminated early in the competition. Bitchy, jealous queens couldn't handle the fact that I had won another contest only weeks before. I guess it was lucky they did gang up on me otherwise given half the chance I would have snatched that trophy off them too ;-)
As my reputation increased as one of "Sydney's Finest", I was then given the chance to star as a lead in a Sleazeball show (2005) with the direction of Portia Turbo. In this critically acclaimed and coveted perfomance I was backed up by fourteen of Sydney's up and coming young talent, the likes of Tora Hymen (who is now a very successful and beautiful perfomer), Sandy Toggs, Benita DeVito, Mystique Jewell, Lisa Mann, Kirsten Damned and Genna Side to name a few.
Other than the odd spot here and there around town and working with Farren Heit on a gay cruise ship, the Sleazeball show was one of my last performances, but probably my most memorable, my favourite. I guess how many queens can say they have lead a Sleazeball show?
Although I have pretty much hung my heels up and bagged my drag, you may see me out sometime soon. If you do see me out be sure to say hello.
