Performing professionally for over twenty years as a bass player and vocalist,
Lisa Rae has made numerous television and radio appearances and has toured internationally across Canada, Europe, The United States, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean; playing small clubs to huge events, festivals and arenas and everything in between. She has performed at the Skydome in Toronto and to a crowd of 30,000 + in Calgary, to mention some highlites.
Since the age of twelve, when she held her own playing with jazz legend
"Big" Miller (Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis), Lisa has performed with more internationally recognized musicians than can be mentioned, but the short list includes Juno Award winners Alpha YaYa Diallo, Powder Blues Band, Jerry Doucette, Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne and Jeff Healey (two-time Grammy Award Nominee). She has also performed with Jazz notables Tommy Banks, PJ Perry, Bobby Shew, Bob Stroup (Woody Herman) and more.
A schooled and skilled musician freelancing in all styles of music from rock, blues, pop,
country, R&B, to world music, jazz, salsa, big band, mariachi and folk; her bass playing
has complemented the likes of such drummers as Sonny Emory (Earth Wind & Fire) Kennard Johnson (Junior Wells, James Cotton, Buddy Guy, Steve Miller,
Howlin' Wolf, Willy Dixon), Matt Frenette (Loverboy), Randall Stoll (K.D. Lang, Joni Mitchell) and Gary Grace (Prism).
Lisa has recorded and toured with Grammy Award nominee Gaye Delorme, multiple platinum selling Canadian classic rock icons "Holly Woods & Toronto" and has added her dynamic contribution on bass and vocals in the studio to several CDs. A consummate player, Lisa knows her way intimately around all the basses (four, five string, fretless & stand-up). Her vocal, harmony, arranging and production skills are in high demand and, being multi-talented, she also enjoys playing drums (she has played drums with YES bassist Chris Squire!), guitar, keyboards, harmonica, mandolin, trombone, guitarron, and percussion as well as composing her own music; currently co-fronting/writing with her own original band, The Viragos.
Frequently said to have "big ears" and "deep pockets", highly respected by her peers, Lisa plays with heart and always puts the music first.
"In all my travels, Lisa is one of the finest bass players I've come across"
Jeff Healey
