About me: Winner - 2004 Performing Songwriters Boot Camp" Competition at Highland Grounds in Hollywood.
Finalist - 2006 Wildflower Arts & Music Festival Singer/Songwriter Competition, Richardson, Texas
2007 - Sedona Jam featured performer
Lisa Turner always brings down the house wherever she appears. She plays what might be described as Celtic-tinged acoustic power folk-rock. Her songs are revealing and deeply personal, yet easy to relate to. Lisa is right in the vanguard of the new generation of female songwriters who not only sing, but have taken the time to master their instrument as well (in her case, the guitar). She's got a clean, pure, agile voice reminiscent of Shawn Colvin, and that, coupled with some smokin' tight guitar licks, makes her a very compelling act to watch onstage. Paul Anderson of the LA Times said, "Her crystal-clear voice will make your head turn. And once you hear her folk-based songs, you're hooked..."
In 2003, Lisa Turner created quite a stir in the Hollywood area winning the inaugural "Performing Songwriters Boot Camp" Competition at Highland Grounds in Hollywood. This year, she was one of 10 finalists at the Wildflower Arts & Music Festival in Richardson, Texas. She was recently selected as one of 20 performers at the inaugural Sedona Jam Emerging Artists Festival in Sedona, Arizona.
Her pulsing guitar, her Melissa Ethridge meets Sarah McLachlin vocal delivery, and her distinctive, very long and thick blonde hair get her noticed whenever and wherever she performs. Influenced by "all the music that ever touched me," she cites Patti Griffin, the Indigo Girls, Paula Cole, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, Bob Seeger, and Shawn Colvin as some of her favorite songwriters.
Lisa Turner delivers smartly crafted songs in a variety of colors and textures in plainspoken stories and with honesty and depth of emotion. Moving songs of loss and heartbreak. Songs that remind us it's the simple things that matter most. Songs that tell us to open our hearts and love.
